How We Met

Morgan and Greg met while studying abroad together in Europe through Georgia Tech in summer 2014. Greg said he noticed Morgan immediately during the pre-departure courses in Atlanta, but they didn't speak until the first night in Europe: in Paris, the city of love, when Greg asked Morgan if he could tag along with her friends to see the Eiffel Tower. They continued getting to know each other throughout the summer, exploring museums, attending opera concerts, trying new foods, wandering cities at night, and studying together on the group bus between stops (or at least Morgan studied while Greg napped on her shoulder)...always balancing out each other and laughing at Greg's silly antics that drew Morgan to him in the first place. Mid-summer when they took a weekend trip to Stonehenge, the rest of the tour group just assumed they were on their honeymoon because it seemed like they had known each other forever, not just 2 months, and indeed they too felt like they had known each other for years because they spent all their time together that summer and knew everything about each other. Morgan still says that summer was the happiest and most exciting time of her life, and very unlike her she actually didn't want to go home at the end when all the other students were ready to return to family and friends in the US. Once they returned to Georgia Tech's campus in August they made their relationship official, now sure it wasn't just a summer fling but built to last. They continued dating through long distance internships in college and even through Morgan moving to Seattle for work full time after graduation. Greg moved to Seattle in December 2019 after 2.5 years of long distance, just in time to spend every waking second with each other for a year once COVID hit, much like their study abroad days. Family commented if they could survive that much long distance and then do a 180 to only see each other, then they could make it through anything!

How He Proposed

It all started on New Year's Eve 2019 at Morgan's parents' house when Greg asked Morgan if she wanted to get married in 2020. Morgan said they would need a year to plan a wedding, so just getting engaged in 2020 was a better idea. For months Morgan expected Greg to propose at any minute. However, with COVID Greg decided to postpone a proposal…until in December 2020 Morgan brought it up again, and Greg knew it was so on her mind that the only way to surprise Morgan would be to propose quickly. In true Greg fashion, he followed up on his promise to propose on the very last day of 2020, on NYE one year later, again at Morgan’s parents' house. Greg was supposed to visit that night to see Morgan and her family before they took him to the airport the next day, and in the meantime Morgan's mom told her to dress up for family pictures. Morgan's sister Dana picked out her cutest outfit for Morgan since she didn't pack any nice clothes. Then the front doorbell rang, and Morgan's mom asked Morgan to answer the door, and completely unaware Morgan went to the door only to see Greg standing there 6 hours early. Greg explained what was going on and got down on one knee to propose with the engagement ring Morgan’s mom had worn for 40 years. Morgan was overjoyed and in shock, secretly hoping something like this was being planned. Morgan didn’t actually cry until Greg told her his family was also there to surprise her and celebrate, which was the best gift since Morgan thought she wouldn’t get to see them this trip. They shared a moment together and then walked from the front porch to the back porch, where Morgan’s family had set up a table of food and drinks to have a socially distanced outdoor engagement party with the families. Morgan had always dreamed of getting engaged at Disney World or on top of a mountain but being with family was better than any plan she’d imagined.
