This is one of our favorite hikes. The Deer Creek trailhead (about 42 miles up the South Fork, about 10 minutes from DDX) has a big parking lot and trailhead on your right. It's about a 2.4 mile hike to the waterfall, about 5 miles round trip. You gain a little over 1,000 ft so there is a bit of an incline in the beginning. This hike has one of the best views of the valley and is a great choice for a half-day excursion.
This is an EPIC hike recommended for those who want a vertical challenge! The Mesa trailhead is on your right, about a minute up the South Fork from DDX, just before the white Valley School (right where the gravel meets pavement). Approximately 5 miles to get on top of the Mesa so 10 miles round trip. You gain almost 4,000 ft of elevation over these steep switchbacks with an incredible view waiting at the top. We highly recommend. Let us know if you are planning on doing this one and we can give you some more information. This is a 3/4 day to a full day excursion.
Not to be confused with the Ishawooa Mesa trail.. this is a fun one where you can go as far or as little as you'd like, paralleling Ishawooa Creek. The Ishawooa trailhead is about 34 miles from Cody up the South Fork road, on your right immediately after crossing the bridge. We recommend walking at least a mile up the trail to gain some incredible views of the valley and to peek back into the beautiful Absaroka range. You can keep going as far as you'd like... the trail continues on for miles.
Yellowstone National Park's east entrance is just 50 miles from Cody, about an hour drive. Go check out the incredible geysers, mud pots, wildlife (bison!!), and much more.. truly one of mother nature's finest creations.
Darby was a raft guide here for one summer in college. The owners are awesome and this is the perfect way to spend a hot summer's day... getting wet n' wild in Wyoming!
Contact the DDX to inquire about a guided fly fishing session on the South Fork.
The Cody Nite Rodeo has been performing every night of the summer since 1938, providing an entertaining western show.
One of Darby and John's favorite museums, a real jewel for a rural town!
Beartooth Pass reaches 10,947 ft and is a stunningly beautiful drive with plentiful great spots to pull over, take in the view, and walk around. We often see mountain goats right before dropping down into Red Lodge, a fun place to visit with great shops and dining options.
Thermopolis is 1.5 hrs south of Cody; if you're driving from that direction to the wedding we definitely recommend stopping here to soak in the pools!
One of the best spots in town... thoughtful, delicious, locally-sourced. The perfect spot to hang out for breakfast or lunch. Jake & Porter, the owners, will be catering the wedding dinner!
One of our go-to's in Cody. John always gets the combination plate and Darby, the enchilada. Their margaritas are pretty exceptional.
