Things To Do - Hikes

Hawaii’s landscapes are not just scenic backdrops—they are sacred and ecologically fragile. Treating the land with care ensures its preservation for generations to come. For more information on hikes, we use the AllTrails app. For more information on intense trails, please reach out to Sam.

Manoa Falls Trail

Na Ala Hele, Honolulu, HI 96822

Difficulty: Easy Length: 1.8 miles Estimated Time: 1 hour (roundtrip) The trail can be quite muddy, so proper closed toe footwear is recommended. Unfortunately, swimming is not allowed at the pool base of the waterfall but the views alone justify this easy hike. Admission is free, but there's a small parking fee.

Diamond Head Crater Trailhead

Kapahulu, Honolulu, HI 96815

Difficulty: Easy Length: 1.5 miles Estimated Time: 1 hour (roundtrip) One and done type of hike, quite touristy and can get very busy but overlooks the city of Waikiki. You're indeed standing on top of an extinct Volcano. Reservations are required and there’s cost for both entry and parking.

Koko Crater Railway Trailhead

7604 Koko Head Park Road, Honolulu, HI 96825

Level: Hard Length: 1.6 miles Estimated Time: 1.5 hours (roundtrip) “The stair master of death” or “stair master in paradise”; pick your poison. The 1,000+ step walking track consists of abandoned railroad ties that run along the crater's west side to the top of Koko Crater. Be prepared to get your steps in.

Wa'ahila Ridge Trail

Wa'ahila Ridge Trail, Honolulu, HI

Difficulty: Moderate - Hard Length: 5.3 miles (roundtrip) Estimated Time: 2.5 - 3.5 hours Located in the St. Louis Heights area, this trail is an out-and-back, go-as-far-as-you’d-like trail. It ends at the crossroads of Kolowalu trail and Wa'ahila trail, but if you're looking for a bit of a challenge you can follow the trail all the way to the top of Mt. Olympus. This should NOT be attempted by beginner hikers. If you do choose to go past it, be aware the trail gets skinnier and has numerous rope sections that you'll have to climb to reach the summit.

Kuliʻouʻou Ridge Trail

Hahaione Street, Honolulu, HI

Difficulty: Hard Length: 4.1 miles (roundtrip) Estimated Time: 2.5 - 3 hours This trail consists of different ecosystems; a rainforest to a dry forest, then pine groves. The trail is steep and can be wet/slippery so prepare for muddy conditions. On a clear day, the views from the top are outstanding, as you'll see a full 360-degree view of Diamond Head, Koko Head, and out to the East Side in Waimanalo. Climbing will be involved.
