We are getting married!

I asked Jake to meet me at my favorite coffee shop, Compass, right across from Capital Arena when we both lived in DC. We spent the next three hours in the National Portrait Gallery chatting about everything you aren't traditionally supposed to talk about on a first date. We figured out we lived across the street from each other (I basically made Jake take the metro 30 minutes for nothing)! The street corner separating our apartment buildings became a popular meeting spot until I moved to Baltimore the following summer. Now instead of neighbors, we share an apartment in Chelsea and special order coffee beans from Compass.

Jake insisted on taking me on a hike up at Devil's Lake in Wisconsin during my finals week, I insisted that we had to be back home in a few hours because I had a zoom study group that night. We got up to the hiking trail with Jake's sister, Jessica. We all stopped at every outlook taking in all the amazing views. Finally, after several miles, what seemed to me like a pretty vertical uphill hike, we got to one of the last outlooks and Jake looked at me and popped down on one knee! I cried and said yes while Jessica dutifully snapped pics for us. When we got back to the house in Green Lake, I was still insistent on hopping onto my zoom call, but Jake had other plans. He had his mum drive up to surprise me! The house was covered in rose petals and she cooked a homemade dinner for the two of us. There was lots of screaming, hugging, and crying, along with ogling at my ring before she and Jessica headed back to Barrington. Jake made a special playlist with all of our favorites and we spent the rest of the night drinking champagne, jamming to our playlist, and eating Anna Shea's chocolates.
