The year is 2007. A young Jaimie and Henry sit 4 feet away from each other in a freshman year history class at Stuyvesant High School. They locked eyes from across the room and something just clicked. "This is the person I'm going to spend the rest of my life with" they both thought. Just a JOKE. Henry and Jaimie spent four formative years of high school blissfully ignoring each other in hallways, relatively unaware of the other's existence. Until senior year, the merging of friend groups brought Jaimie and Henry to a new level of actual friendship (largely thanks to the magic of Camp Scatico). As our final days of high school went by, the prevailing thought was - this is probably a fast, fleeting friendship but I really, really hope it isn't. Luckily it wasn't. Jaimie went off to Israel and Henry went to Cornell, but school breaks kept bringing them back to each other. High school crews officially merged, flirtations ensued and the vibe was clear - these two are definitely gonna smooch. In the back room of NYC's most romantic dive bar, Crocodile Lounge (RIP), with the help of the world's greatest pickup line, "wanna go play skeeball?" Jaimie and Henry shared their first kiss, surrounded by arcade games, free pizza, and their best friends - three of their favorite things to this day. After a couple years of will they / won't they, seems like they won't, oh wait no - they are, or are they? yes they are! No no they're not. wait NOW they are. In March of 2016, Henry and Jaimie went on their first real date and have been together ever since.
Henry brought Jaimie to the basketball court behind Stuyvesant High School. This was the exact spot where they first really met, nearly 14 years ago as freshmen in high school, playing in an impromptu game of after school pickup basketball. What at the time felt like a fleeting moment, in retrospect became the first page (or a least the prologue?) to their much longer story. We walked through the court, surrounded by unassuming and shockingly unfazed 11 year olds, when Henry stopped in the middle to get down on one knee.
