Sean and Megan first met like any other modern day love story: Tinder and a cheesy Harry Potter pickup line in August of 2018. They instantly bonded over their shared love of books (especially Harry Potter) and musicals. They talked for hours over coffee on their first brunch date; comparing their Audible libraries and recommending series for each other. They went on a couple of dates before deciding that a long distance (130 miles) relationship was not what they were looking for at the moment. They stayed connected, talking with each other on occasion, and after about four months, Megan finally came around to trying long distance to see if there was really something there, because Sean was always a ‘what if’ in the back of her mind. They went on dates again, enjoying each other's company and talking on the phone at night about a book series that Megan got Sean to start reading. Sadly, this time was not meant to be and it seemed like the end of the story for our two star-crossed lovers.
Both of them moved on, Megan graduating from her Masters program in theatre and Sean moving to North Carolina to start a dream job working on video games. Time passed and they didn’t speak to each other, Sean was always too afraid to text or call Megan and come off as that weird ex-boyfriend. However a golden opportunity arose when he was sent to the UK for a work trip and he used that as an excuse to contact Megan about travel recommendations as she had been there before. They chatted slightly that time and again didn't talk to each other for months. Megan assumed that since he had moved across the country, their story was over. Until one fateful night in January 2020, Sean posted his Audible listening time for 2019 on Facebook; and Megan (being the competitive person she is) just had to call him to brag that she had almost as much listening time. She expected to leave a voicemail and they both were pleasantly surprised to end up chatting on the phone and catching up for a bit.
The pandemic began and gave them both the perfect excuse to spend more and more time together watching Netflix shows and talking on the phone for hours at a time (reaching 5 hours on the phone more than once). The spark the two shared was still there, but Sean was too afraid to speak up and say anything, and Megan was unsure what she wanted. This continued until that summer when Sean planned a trip to visit his “friends” in South Dakota, a poorly veiled attempt to go spend time with Megan in person and see if that spark he felt still was there in person. The two had a wonderful time together eating sushi and watching the newest season of The Politician and Hamilton together, but it still wasn’t the right time for the two of them. After Sean got home from South Dakota they had one more movie night with each other before once more talking with each other went dormant. After a few months they began talking again, but Sean was always too afraid to propose doing anything more and losing out on the friendship that he had with Megan. When Megan decided to start rewatching the Marvel movie series, she asked Sean to join her. They went from talking and watching a movie once a week, to sharing what was going on there lives to every other day, to finally every night. Finally one night in November 2020 when watching movies after they both had a bit much to drink, Sean told Megan he was planning a trip to Hawaii for his birthday in December. Megan suggested he come to South Dakota and visit her instead. He agreed immediately booking his tickets that very night on the phone with her not giving himself (or her for that matter) a chance to back out. And so he went to a frigid arctic wasteland instead of a warm and sunny oasis, and he never regretted it for a moment. Megan and Sean had a visit for a few days with each other exchanging christmas gifts and birthday gifts. Sean wasn’t going to broach the topic of what their relationship was since they both had said they didn’t want to date long distance. Megan however asked Sean, very eloquently, “So are you going to be my boyfriend?” He said yes because this was exactly what he wanted. Unwittingly, the two of them had already built the foundation for a strong long distance relationship over their numerous phone calls in the last several months. Thus beginning the adventures the two had of traveling 1300 miles every month to see each other on alternating visits. Megan finally got to meet Sean’s daughter, Iris, and the two of them instantly formed a bond with each other. Sean got to meet more and more of Megan’s family. It quickly became obvious to Sean he was in love with this woman and that he wanted to marry her. So in the summer of 2021, he began planning. Fortunately he had always known how he wanted to do it, now it was just a matter of getting everything lined up. He planned a trip to Disney World and Universal Studios inviting Megan's parents and sisters, and his own parents to go on a vacation together with the intent to propose to her on the first day of the trip. On December 30th, Sean popped the question in front of Hogwarts at Universal with Megan holding Iris. Megan said yes and the rest is history. (Sean still hasn’t taken that trip to Hawaii, but it’ll happen one day.)
