Mother of the Bride
Elizabeth (Buffy) is Sarah's mom, and one of the most loving people on the planet Earth. Elizabeth has been hard at work training her new dog Blue this year, and will be ready for a relaxing Caribbean vacation in August. If you meet her at the wedding, ask her about her new puppy...or her new granddaughter!
Sonsire
Mother of the Groom
Sonsire, Héctor's beloved mother, passed away in 2010, but we are keeping her in our hearts as we approach this important moment in our lives. Sonsire passed down to her son her great joy in the differences that made the people around her unique, her deep appreciation for beauty, and her infectious love of adventure. Please help us to remember and cherish her on our wedding day!
Richard
Father of the Bride
Rich is Sarah's wonderful dad--and you'll be able to pick him out of a crowd (he's nearly 6 feet and 6 inches tall)! If you see him at the wedding, ask Rich about his latest renovations on the family farm, or just get his advice about administrative Linux!
Oreste
Father of the Groom
Oreste Ramos, aka "Don Oreste," is the father of the groom. He has taught his two sons the virtue of integrity, the joys of a curious mind, and the value of looking one's best. Ask him about the Bubonic Plague or for a tour of the "real Puerto Rico" (you will have to do the driving, though)!
Mary
Matron of Honor
Mary is Sarah's big sister! She is a world traveler, a lover of both Lifetime and horror movies, and a new mom! If you see her at the wedding, ask her about her baby, Aubrey.
Oreste Ricardo
Best Man
Oreste Ricardo is Héctor's beloved brother and best man. "Junior" (as his family calls him) has a quick wit and an impressive array of impressions, which his wife, Ani Tere, and kids, Ricardo and Juliana, get to enjoy on a daily basis. If you see him at the wedding, ask him for some Beatles trivia!
Laura
Bridesmaid and Lector
Sarah thanks her lucky stars every day to have met Laura in her PhD cohort--there's no trustier friend to muck through graduate school with! If you see Laura at the wedding, ask her to sight-read some Latin for you, or just ask what she's been reading, watching, knitting, or baking lately (it's sure to be something good)!
Humberto
Groomsman and Lector
Humberto is one of Sarah and Héctor's greatest, most loyal friends. He is a quiet man, a gentle giant, and a deep thinker. But, he is also a party animal and a movie lover. Ask him about Aristotle or where to get the best arepa in Chicago, and he's your guy.
Emma
Bridesmaid
Emma and Sarah have been friends since their first year at Beloit College, where they shared soulful conversations, winter walks through the snow, and many deep fried cheese curds. If you see Emma at the wedding, ask her about the best hiking trails in Wisconsin!
Matt
Groomsman
Matt (Matty to friends and foes) is one of Héctor's greatest friends, and his on-again/off-again roommate and fellow radio DJ at Macalester College. If you see him at the wedding, ask him about his past life in China or what it's like to have your personality tested by E-meter.
Jessica
Bridesmaid
Jessica was Sarah's TA in her first class at Beloit, and Sarah has never stopped looking up to her. If you see Jess at the wedding, ask her about Quranic recitation practices in Indonesia!
David
Groomsman
David McKay is one of Héctor's greatest friends. The two met in Belgium and were brought together by their shared love of philosophy and giving each other a hard time about everything. A Northern Irish expatriate to the Netherlands, ask him about his top ten favorite things about the Dutch!
Andy
Usher
Andy is Sarah's big brother! He lives in dark, rainy Seattle with his fiancée (Kristine) and their cats, so his trip to Puerto Rico might provide his first experience of direct sunlight this year. Andy's a game developer, so if you see him at the wedding, ask him about his latest video game, Ghost of Tsushima!
Kristine
Usher
Kristine is Andy's fiancée, who has also brought several beloved cats into his life. Kristine is an excellent artist, so if you see her at the wedding, ask her to show you what she's been working on lately!
