The wedding will be in Old San Juan, so you'll come here no matter what, but we recommend that you set aside at least one full day to explore this historical neighborhood and its surroundings. Check out the old Spanish citadel San Felipe del Morro (and its many resident iguanas), pick up a piragua from a street vendor, and take a stroll down El Paseo de la Princesa. You won't regret taking the time to enjoy the atmosphere of this special place.
El Condado, a neighborhood sandwiched between the beach and the Condado Lagoon, is full of fun restaurants, cafes, and shops. It's also the where Héctor grew up! Just a short walk away is Calle Loíza, a part of town increasingly known for its hopping culinary scene!
If you're looking for calm water to swim in without leaving the city, we suggest either of these beaches!
If you want to eat some authentic Puerto Rican frituras, find your way over to Piñones (just outside of San Juan), where you'll find a very popular collection of food kiosks right by the ocean.
El Yunque is a beautiful tropical rainforest, just under an hour's drive from San Juan. If you take a day trip there, we recommend that you also stop at the foot of the forest and enjoy the ocean and food kiosks in Luquillo.
If you drive just over an hour to Ceiba, you can take a ferry for just a few dollars to the smaller islands of Culebra and Vieques. Culebra is famous for Flamenco Beach, while visitors to Vieques especially enjoy Mosquito Bay (one of three bioluminescent bays in Puerto Rico).
