It all started with seeing each other once a year at the annual homeschool convention. Both of us were 'semi friends' and looked forward to mutual friends' events where we knew the other would be there. However, it wasn't until about 3 years ago that Josh started hanging out with Sarah's youngest brother, Caleb, a lot more and thus they started seeing each more often. As time went on, and they interacted more, Josh eventually asked Sarah to be his girlfriend in July of 2022. And as this relationship grew, so did their trust and love for each other! Over the course of 6 months, they went from close friends, to best friends!
It was January 30th. A Regular Monday. I (Sarah) was working another crazy tax day at the office when Josh texted and said 'Hey, you know what we should do tonight? We should celebrate our 6th month anniversary! It's late, I know, but we didn't get to celebrate before..." We were already planning to get dinner that night anyway, so sure! I had the random thought pop into my head "I wonder if he's going to propose". Quickly shoved that thought out of my mind because, no way. We'd decided to wait until after January - the busiest month for me. So clearly, wasn't gonna happen. However, when we met to get gas for my car (so romantic! - though seriously, it is when he offers to do it for you!), I noticed he was dressed up a bit... AND had brought me flowers. Hmmmm.... But again, surely not. He took me to Longhorn Steakhouse for some delicious steak. The waitress asked what we were doing after dinner and he said we'd probably take a drive. Ooh, one of our favorite things! Of course, I took the opportunity to play him some of my country tunes after reminiscing about them in the restaurant. We drove WAY up Tramway to a little turn off that took us up to the La Luz trailhead parking lot. Once there, we got out and looked at the stars. I joked that it was a good spot for star gazing, but maybe we should come back when it was warmer! He quickly grabbed a blanket from the back of the car, wrapped me up, and then hugged me and said something sweet about how he really loved the last 6 months together. How we had grown so much. And how he wouldn't change a thing about it... or about me. "Well, I would change one thing..." At this point he dropped to his knee. "... Your last name. Sarah, would you marry me?" I stared for several seconds, then looked at him skeptically. "Is this for real?" Please note that he had fake proposed to me twice already (what else was I (Josh) gonna do after an extremely delicious homecooked meal?!). And he had yet to pull out a ring. "Yes, this is for real." I was still skeptical. After another reassurance I was finally convinced, dropped on my own knees excitedly and hugged him and then said "But I can't say yes without a ring?!" He laughed. "So uh... funny story... I forgot the ring!" We both laughed, and then went back to his house to grab the ring (after much excited squealing and jumping up and down under the stars), where he proposed to me again, this time with the ring.
Getting to have the celebration of our wedding at the ranch where most of our story developed holds a lot of meaning for us. We're so excited to get to have all of you around us on this incredibly special day! It really means the world to us. We can't wait to go on this grand adventure of marriage!
