Things To Do

The Wedding Website of Heather McKenney and Nick Barbouletos
We love Southwest Montana during the shoulder seasons. While there may not be enough snow to ski, and the water levels will be too low to book a commercial whitewater raft, there are still many adventures to be had and places to explore. These are a few of our favorite things to do and places to visit.
Drinking Horse Hill Trail

Downtown Bozeman is the heart of our community. Offering fine and casual dining, art galleries, retail shops, outdoor sporting goods stores, and much more, you can enjoy the outdoor farmer's markets or see what music we have playing in town. Norris Hot Springs

Norris Hot Springs

Chico isn't the only Hot Spring around. While we prefer to find the natural ponds or enjoy the amenities that Chico Resort offers, you may want to explore the wooden pool at Norris Hot Springs, the funny fire rings around the outdoor pools at Bozeman Hot Springs, or feel extra fancy and take a trek out to Yellowstone Hotsprings in Paradise Valley. Each with its own unique aesthetic, you'll be sure to find somewhere to relax.

Hyalite Reservoir

Hyalite Reservoir

MT

One of the world's greatest multisport mountain playgrounds is south of Bozeman. You can do it all at the Hyalite Reservoir, throughout the Canyon, and in the surrounding peaks. This area has long been the go-to place for locals seeking their mountain fix. Hyalite's trail system is legendary and offers anything from a leisurely stroll to weeklong expeditions through the heart of a 500,000-acre roadless area. Throw in loads of spectacular waterfalls, like Grotto, Palisade, and Horsetail, and it's hard to find more classic hikes. Bring a fishing rod, a canoe, or even a paddle board if you're prepared for the cold and enjoy the fresh mountain air. No matter what you're after, you can probably find it in Hyalite. Just be sure to bring a coat! It tends to be about 10 degrees cooler near the water. https://outsidebozeman.com/places/mountains/what-the-heck-hyalite

Big Sky

Big Sky

Big Sky, MT

The Gallatin Canyon drive going from Bozeman to Big Sky is one of Heather's favorites! Montana Whitewater Rafting Co., the place where Barbo and Heather met, is located in this canyon, and the Gallatin River is visible for the majority of the drive. The canyon is a great place to fly fish, with many easy access points, pullouts, and campgrounds along the way. Be prepared, you will not have service in the Gallatin Canyon. Big Sky is about an hour away from Bozeman and features similar Mountain Town amenities. Halfway to the West entrance of Yellowstone National Park (which is open!), you can find great food, drinks, hiking, golf, frisbee golf, horseback riding, visit Big Sky or Moonlight Resort, and much more.
