How We Met

If we had a cinematic "meet-cute" story, this is where we'd tell you about it. But like most people these days, we first caught a glimpse of each other on OkCupid. After exchanging enough messages about art/music/travel to decide that the other person seemed a) smart b) sane and c) interesting, we met up for beers at a bar that no longer exists. Four years later and counting, Chris still teases Heather about how she expressed her disdain for the Peekskill Simple Sour. Heather still maintains that saying a beer is "Okay" is not an expression of disdain.

Further Beers

Fairly early on in our dating, Chris suggested we buy the Brooklyn Beer Book, which is a thing where you get 30 beers for $1 each. The fact that we both were interested in such a bargain *and* long-term commitment seemed like a good sign.

The Proposal

It was March 2021, and we'd spent a whole lot of time together over the past year. In the early spring of 2020, we'd passed our time indoors walking in place in our living room, watching PoV videos of hikes in redwood forests or through European city streets. Later, we'd taken early-morning walks down nearly empty streets, and later still, we'd taken kayaking classes by the Intrepid and day trips to the Hudson Valley for hikes. In a year of Zoom holiday gatherings and working from home and general stress, we hadn't driven each other (too) crazy. Chris proposed in our living room one Saturday morning, casually pulling out a ring that had been hidden in a drawer. Heather said yes immediately, and we celebrated with cronuts that Heather had ordered as an unrelated surprise. We're both very excited about this new-to-us adventure of married life that we'll be embarking on, and we can't wait to celebrate with all of you.
