How to get to Santorini from the UK?

- Search for direct flights on skyscanner - Airlines that fly direct to Santorini are British Airways, Norwegian Air, Thomas Cook, EasyJet & TUI - Easyjet are scheduled to release next years flights in September. They fly from London Gatwick everyday & Manchester on Mondays, Wednesdays & Saturdays - If there are no suitable direct flights then search for flights via Athens, Paris, Rome, Naples, or Venice - It is possible to fly into Athens, Rhodes, Crete or Mykonos then ferry to Santorini if you would like to extend your holiday - The island is small and all towns are less than 40 minutes from the airport or ferry port

Where to stay in Santorini?

The first and most basic decision that needs to be made is do you want to stay at the beach or in the towns along the Caldera? The beaches are situated along the eastern coast of the island. The towns (Fira, Firostefani, Imergovigli, Oia) located on the western edge of the island are perched on the Caldera cliff and look out towards the volcano. The Caldera towns are trendier, restaurants more high end, clubs more sophisticated and hotels more luxurious. The beach towns are more relaxed, less expensive and have a feel closer to the other Greek islands with the majority of restaurants and bars lining the beach front. - Best for families: Kamari (best beach town, lots of resturants, less expensive, kid-friendly vibe) - Best views & sunsets: Imerovigli, Fira & Firostefani We will be staying in Kamari until Sunday the 24th of May where we will then move to our wedding villa in Imerovigli for 4 nights to soak up the Caldera views, sunsets and enjoy Fira Town.

Hotel recommendations

If you need any advice when booking your accommodation then please do not hesitate in sending us a hotel link to check it out before going ahead & booking. If it's the best views you are after then location is key & some hotel photos can be misleading! Remember to look out for key words in the description such as 'Caldera', 'Sunset' & 'Volcano'... If it mentions an 'East' or 'Sea' view this will most likely mean it will be looking out towards the Sunrise of the island; rather than the Sunset. We have found Booking.com to be the best website when looking for hotels in Santorini however you might also want to check out AirBnB.co.uk, Hotels.com & package holidays through Thomas Cook & TUI. For further information please visit SantoriniDave.com!

How do I get from Santorini airport to Fira and the rest of the island?

Taxi - The easiest & quickest way to get to around the island is by taxi. They are always available at the airport however this can involve a wait during peak times. It costs about 15 euros to Fira & 20 to 25 euros to the rest of the island. - Taxi Number: +30 22860-22555 Bus - In the high season (roughly June to September) buses run every hour between Fira & the airport however there are fewer buses on a weekend. Most of these buses are running Fira to Monolithos route & make a stop at the airport. It takes around 15 minutes to get from the airport to Fira by bus & costs around 2 euros so plan to have small change available.

Renting a Car

RentalCars.com searches all the big car companies and finds the best price. Don’t be put off by the simple layout of the site – it’s all about finding the best rates. The most common pickup points are Fira and the Santorini airport. Under 'Pickup Location' select either 'Santorini airport' or 'All Locations' (which will usually means Fira). - If arriving by plane your best to pickup a rental car at Santorini airport. This will avoid the long queues for a taxi and is much easier than collecting in the local towns. - If arriving by ferry then take a taxi or bus from the port to the airport to pickup your rental car. It’s easier to collect from the airport than finding the individual rental car companies elsewhere. - International car companies are always a safe bet however you sometimes can get cheaper deals via local car rental companies. Recommendations: Vazeos and Spiridakos.
