Both San Francisco International and Oakland International are your best options when booking a flight into town. They're both about equal distance to downtown San Francisco and each has plenty of transit options, so be sure to check out flights at both airports to get the best deal!

Travel Note
BART Train - San Francisco's version of a subway. You can take this from OAK or SFO Airport into the city. Muni Bus - Great low cost option for getting around the city. You can use google maps for bus routes and times of bus arrivals/departures. Cable Car - The cable car runs right outside of the University Club. Such a fun way to travel from Fisherman's Wharf to Union Square or vice versa. Uber/Lyft - An Uber/lyft is never more than 5 minutes away from you at any time in the city. Quickest option if you don't want to walk San Francisco hills. Rental Car - Both airports have rental car options. Be aware that city parking overnight can get pricey, so check to see if your hotel has a parking garage, or Google street view to see what street parking options are available. Gig Share/Zipcar - App based car rentals for short distances. Cost based on time used.
