FAQs

The Wedding Website of Anne Hathaway and Alexander Olkuski
Question

I want to spend some extra time in NYC. Where should I stay?

Answer

Midtown Manhattan has hotel options at varying prices, and is centrally located to many subway lines that make it easy to navigate the city (also not a far cab ride away from other parts of the city). For a different perspective, you can also find great places to stay in Brooklyn and Queens that are a quick commute into the city and will offer a quieter, more local feel. In Brooklyn, we recommend looking for hotels in/around Downtown Brooklyn and Williamsburg. In Queens, we recommend Long Island City.

Question

Taxis vs. Ubers vs. rental cars?

Answer

If you're flying in and don't want to rent a car, but aren't sure what the best ground transportation option is, we'll do our best to lay it out for you here. Don't hesitate to reach out with any additional questions you might have. As a rule of thumb, don't take rides from drivers offering them in NYC's airports outside of the licensed taxi stand (yellow cabs) or Uber/Lyft. Drivers offering rides to arriving travelers outside of the taxi stand will charge exponentially more (in other words, they're looking to rip you off). Going straight to the venue from the airport: we recommend ordering an Uber/Lyft. Yellow cabs can refuse to travel outside of NYC, and typically only operate within the five boroughs. Arriving early to explore NYC: we recommend taking a yellow cab from the airport taxi stand to your hotel. You can then decide whether you want to pay for an Uber to get to the venue, rent a car or take the LIRR. If you're renting a car, it would be easier to pick it up on your way to the venue rather than when you arrive at the airport; you won't need it to get around in the city and parking will be difficult (unless you want to pay extra to park in a garage). Sticking around after the wedding: if you Uber/train from the airport to the venue and want to get back to NYC to spend time before flying home, you have a few options. Another Uber back is the obvious one. You can also take the Long Island Railroad directly from the train station in Glen Cove into Penn Station in midtown Manhattan. If you rent a car to get out to the venue, we'd recommend dropping it off on your way back to NYC and getting an Uber to your hotel so that you don't have to bother with the car in the city.
