They met in Spring of 2004 at Champs Sports in Jefferson Mall. They both worked at shoe stores and Rashid walked in one day. Jennifer looked at her co-worker and called dibs. They talked for hours the first time they spent time together on Linda's front porch. They created a strong friendship over the next several years and started dating seriously in 2009.

Rashid asked for David's blessing on a Friday afternoon. He had already bought the ring and came straight over to the house afterward. He knew Jennifer wanted a private and intimate proposal (she had talked about it for years). He got on both knees and shared his thoughts and feelings. He described his love and asked her to marry him. She said yes.
