We met in 2018. Jess was already planning a move back to the West Coast, and Nick was fresh off the plane in New York. Our first date plans were extensive: a museum exploration followed by a Restaurant Week 3 course dinner. Jess texted her girlfriend nervously, saying "What if I know immediately that I'm not interested, and I still have 5 hours worth of plans with him?" Needless to say, Nick impressed beyond any doubts, and the two became inseparable instantly. Over the years, the two of us have traveled to over 15 countries, made almost 300 skydives together, and gotten too many matching tattoos together (sorry, mom). Life is an adventure and the world is our playground, and we are lucky to have found the best sandbox partners in each other.
Nick decided to commandeer a group 30th birthday bash in Tulum, Mexico for the proposal. Jess's best friends were all in attendance, and it was the perfect tropical paradise setting to do the thing. Of course, as soon as we arrived in Mexico, it was raining nonstop, and continued to do so for the first 2 days. Nick was so stressed he couldn't stop staring at his weather app. Thanksfully, the heavens parted in an act of fate just long enough for Nick to pull off the most magical sunset rooftop proposal ever. With a private picnic setup, giant marquee letters, and a hidden photographer, Nick was set to nail every part of a girl's dream proposal surprise. However, he got too nervous when we got up to the roof and completely skipped the speech he had planned, instead dropping to his knee immediately and let the ring do the talking (don't worry, Jess made him give the speech afterwards). After an intimate picnic together, the duo headed to a nearby restaurant where all of their friends were waiting with hugs and smiles. It was truly the perfect day with all of the right people.
