The Wedding Website of Hart Callahan and Kristen Poe
There is nothing wrong with sitting by the ocean drinking margaritas all day... but for our more adventurous ones...
GRAND CENOTES

GRAND CENOTES

Just ask our friend/experts Jarett and Jayne (pictured) about the Cenotes. This is one of the most popular diving and snorkeling areas in the Riviera Maya. Snorkel inside of this huge cave system without ever diving under the water. Cavern divers can enjoy this circular shaped cenote decorated with gigantic geological formations. The maximum depth is less than 30 feet with a dive in fresh water of high clarity. This is the second largest system of underground rivers in the world.

MORNING YOGA

MORNING YOGA

Complimentary Yoga classes will be held for wedding guests from 8am to 9am every morning. If you're not into yoga, stroll over with your acai bowl and coffee for an entertaining viewing of "Hungover, Uncoordinated Bridesmaids Try to do Yoga."

THE MAYAN RUINS OF TULUM

THE MAYAN RUINS OF TULUM

Built during the 13th century and where breathtaking sea views and culture meet. That's about all we know other than that these are really cool, old-looking rocks. But not to worry, if you're interested in an in-depth lesson on the history, just ask Kristen's mom, a retired school teacher that naturally knows more about these rocks than any historian. Be prepared to be quizzed over tequila after your tour with Mrs. Deb.

KITE BOARDING OR PADDLE BOARDING

KITE BOARDING OR PADDLE BOARDING

This is where Rick can be found 95% of the time he'll be in Tulum for the wedding weekend. If he shows up to the ceremony in wet-suit attire you now know why. If you're not a pro like him, the hotel concierge will be happy to assist with booking a lesson with group of certified instructors to teach you just a short walk from the Hotel Esencia beach.

SPAS

SPAS

Carretera Boca Paila KM 10, Tulum, QROO 77760, Mexico

Yaan Wellness is a spa in Tulum that we (Kristen & Hart that is) visited on our first trip to Tulum - we highly recommend the experience if you hope to ever reach our level of zen and saintliness. The spa uses natural cenote waters, crystalline springs from the Yucatan’s natural sink holes, that are purified through a complex osmosis system and ultraviolet beams of light, offering magical and vital liquid water therapy in Tulum. Not only that, but you will be led through the routine by a healing guide (aka a cute, kind older lady that will make all your Sunday Scaries go away). Don't be surprised if you see Shelly on site offering palm readings and selling moon earrings. If you feel like staying local, the spa at Hotel Esencia is new, located at the east end of the gardens overlooking the estate’s cenote. Housed under traditional palapa roofs, the fitness room, juice bar and spa integrate hallmarks of modern well-being with ancient customs of cultivating beauty, balance, and peace.

SKYDIVING

SKYDIVING

The father of the bride, Greg, stated he wanted to go Skydiving during the wedding weekend in Tulum (quoted Thanksgiving Day, 2017). Let's all hold him to it. Jump Masters are licensed, certified, and trained by the United States Parachute Association.

COBA

COBA

Once upon a time, Coba was the connection point to other Mayan towns and cities with around 45 roads. Among its constructions, we find the highest pyramid in the peninsula. In it's time, this place had 20,000 structures and its population was about 50,000 people. It is rumored that they all cleared out after a foresight of Miche coming to town and thought it best to save themselves. The best way to enjoy the visit is by bicycle, or the traditional Yucatan “tricycle” with “driver”. Cobá is just a 1 hour drive from Hotel Esencia.

HORSEBACK RIDING

HORSEBACK RIDING

Discover the beauty of Mayan nature, enjoy a fascinating experience riding horseback through the exuberant jungle trails, where you will have the opportunity to appreciate the exotic local flora and fauna in one of the few undeveloped areas left along the Riviera Maya. After your ride when you're feeling a true equestrian champion, be sure to chat with Kristen's 16 year old sister, Alexis, about riding. She'll be sure to check that ego.

CHICHEN ITZA

CHICHEN ITZA

Recently named one of the new Seven Wonders of the World, Chichen Itza was a major regional focal point in the northern Mayan lowlands. The site exhibits a multitude of important structures such as the pyramid of Kukulkan, the Temple of Chac Mool, the Hall of the Thousand Pillars, and the Playing Field of the Prisoners to name a few. Our recommended stops are either the cenote. Chichen Itzá is a 2.5 hrs drive from Hotel Esencia. Air tours available.

EK BALAM

EK BALAM

One of the most impressive ceremonial centers of the Mayans in the Yucatan Peninsula, Ek Balam thrived about 1500 years ago. It is amazing how well preserved these temples and plazas are. Unlike Chichen Itza and Tulum, you can still climb the great Acropolis pyramid at Ek Balam for dramatic views of the Riviera Maya.

SNORKLING

SNORKLING

The colorful local reefs of Xpu Ha are a short boat ride from the beach. You will be able to admire the great variety of coral formations and the marine life such as a wide variety of Caribbean reef fish, barracudas, moray eels, sting rays, and if you are lucky, sea turtles. The hotel concierge will be happy to arrange your snorkeling adventure.

GOLF

GOLF

Let the hotel arrange your golf day at one of the world class courses nearby. El Camaleon Mayakoba Golf Club, designed by Greg Norman, is a 7,039-yard course with three different types of landscapes. Riviera Maya Golf Club golf course has 27 holes cut on the deepest part of a limestone quarry spreading out over the dense jungle. Playing in the Riviera Maya will be remembered as a great environmental experience by any golfer because of the weather, beautiful natural surroundings, and high quality courses.
