We met for the first time in the Willy T. library on the University of Kentucky's campus. I would go over to his table and ask chemistry questions that I already knew the answer to just to talk to him. We saw each other in passing over the next two years until we had an organic chemistry lab together one spring. Our lab hoods were by each other and again, I would ask him for help on things I probably knew. He asked me to go to the athletic awards ceremony (The Catspys) and the rest is history!
We played basketball at one of the local elementary schools and watched spy kids. Then we played a fun game of sand volleyball with Sarah O'Brien and David Beyerle. We knew then that our energy levels were a close match.
The ring came in earlier than expected, and I am terrible at keeping secrets from Emma. The original proposal date was planned for sometime in February, however there was no way I could keep the ring (and my plan) a secret for that long. I moved the date up to the soonest I could, January 16th. So much planning went into the proposal and it was truly a team effort from both of our families. Emma's family came down and helped to set up and decorate for the proposal in the freezing cold. We drove in from Lexington to Bob's pond in Louisville, a place we have gone to fish many times. Once there, we got out of the car and walked down to the dock where I proposed to her while at a complete loss of words. Soon after the proposal it started snowing. After some pictures, we called our families (to tell them the good news) and they came out of the house to surprise her.
The ceremony will be held at the gorgeous Rivercrest Farms, plan to bring a warm jacket, as it might be cold in December in Ohio.
