Skyline Drive runs 105 miles north and south along the crest of the Blue Ridge Mountains in Shenandoah National Park and is the only public road through the park. It takes about three hours to travel the entire length of the park on a clear day.
The 1.0 miles to the Rocks has quite of bit of elevation gain-gaining about 800'. The views at the Rocks are amazing looking west onto the Shenandoah Valley and north to Shenandoah National Park. You can make it a longer hike if you feel so inclined.
A visit to Charlottesville isn't complete without a stop at the Downtown Mall. It is one of the most beautiful and successful pedestrian malls in the nation, and it's located in historic downtown Charlottesville. A wonderful mix of restored and renovated buildings that typified small "downtowns" throughout the country can now be seen by visitors as they enjoy shopping, dining and visiting along the brick-paved pedestrian area.
The FREE Trolley services CAT and University Transit Service stops along its route every 15 minutes on Monday through Saturday. On Sunday, FREE Trolley service is every 30 minutes in the morning, and every 45 minutes in the afternoon. The last Trolley leaves the Downtown Transit Station at 11:30 PM on Monday through Saturday, and at 5:00 PM on Sunday.
