Matt and Alex met move in day, freshman year at UNCC. Being clueless new college students, Suzana and Alex reached out to their high school friend, Clark, for something to do on the very first night of college. He said that he was hanging out at a guy's dorm that he met during freshman orientation. Suzana and Alex took the drive from Moore Hall (RIP) to Hawthorne where they met Matt and his roommates. It was not what you would consider love at first sight, but after a week or two Matt and Alex were texting and hanging out. After a couple of months, a birthday date to the cheesecake factory, several meals at Crown Commons, and a drive to Georgia to help Alex's family move, Matt and Alex decided to make things "official."
To give this story some context you need to know that Alex had made a Fall Bucket List that included all sorts of fall activities like making pumpkin bread, hosting a Halloween party, and tailgating a football game. Going hiking was also on the Fall Bucket List. Matt and Alex, one free weekend decided to check off this item with their golden retriever, Summit, at Hanging Rock, about 2 hours away from Raleigh. Their friends, Drew and Joey, who happened to be in town, also came with them. They accidentally took the long way up so when they got to the top they stopped to take a break. Matt asked to take some pictures, so Joey held onto Summit and Drew took the "pictures." After a few pictures, Matt asked to reposition to have a better background. That is when he got down on one knee, after almost falling on the loose rocks, and asked Alex to marry him. She was very surprised but managed to get out a "yes." The whole time Drew was taking a video. Matt and Alex agreed, between the bee hovering around, Matt almost falling, and Alex not knowing what to do, it was the most awkward video ever taken.
