How We Met

July 30th, 2018

In 2018, the weekend before the Fourth of July, Andrew and a friend decided to drive from Corpus Christi, TX, where he was stationed, up to Austin for a few days. That same weekend, Jessica and a friend of hers boarded a plane and flew down for their week-long vacation in the same city. That Saturday night, the girls decided to ask a pair of guys if they could join the Jenga game they’d just started. A simple game of loser buys next round (the guys let the girls win of course ;) ) led to the four spending the rest of the weekend exploring the city together. Early Monday morning, Andrew and his friend drove back to Corpus Christi. Not long after their arrival, they were given the rest week off because the Fourth of July fell smack in the middle of it. A locked up brake on one car, a failed coolant system on another and a rental car later, back to Austin they drove. A few more days hanging out and that was that. Neither Jessica nor Andrew expected they’d see each other again. But fate had decided otherwise. A sparked conversation on Instagram led to talking days on end and several weeks later, Jessica decided to take the crazy chance and booked a plane ticket to San Antonio for their first date. The rest is history.

How We Got Engaged

November, 7th 2020

On a warm Saturday morning in November of this past year, Andrew and Jessica packed for a couple hour hike in Little Talbot Island State Park. Into Andrew’s flight bag they packed water, sunscreen and a few snacks. Unbeknownst to Jessica, Andrew also packed the ring he’d bought for her. There was no particular plan of how to propose but after spending several months trying to decide what to do, he brought the ring with him just in case the moment felt right. Unfortunately for both of them, the one thing they didn’t pack was bug spray….The first hour of the hike was a buggy mess. Walking through the woods, the day after a large rain storm, proved a poor choice without any bug spray to provide protection. The more bites they felt, the faster the two walked, rushing to get to the part of the hike where the beach took over. The torment proved worth it. When the woods finally broke and the couple walked onto the beach, they found themselves in a secluded piece of sand, with waves rolling over natural driftwood and a gentle breeze cooling off the powerful rays of sunlight. They walked for a bit while Andrew worked up the courage to take out the ring. Heart suddenly racing, before the nerves could stop him, he told Jessica he had something to ask her and knelt down. Jessica turned around and well, you know how the rest goes…..
