The ceremony will commence once the groom walks in with his best man and musical instrument players. During the ceremony, a plate with the Bride's Bridal saree along with the Thali Kodi will be brought around by a relative of the groom. At this time, all guests are encouraged to bless it. Once the ceremony is complete, all guests are to come up to the Mandap and bless the couple by sprinkling rice on them. Lunch is served after.

Question

What Can I Expect during the Sikh Ceremony?

Answer

Before the ceremony begins, in the hallway area of the Gurdwara the Brides family intercepts the Grooms and they meet to perform a 'Milni', Male figures from each side exchange garlands and sweets. Once upon entering the Gurdwara, all guests need to take their shoes off and can proceed to the food hall for snacks and refreshments. When that is complete, guests may come into the hall where the ceremony takes place and will sit on the floor. Women sit on one side and the men on the other. Once the ceremony is over, all guests visit the 'newly married' couple to take pictures and give 'sagaan' (Small monetary gift e.g. $10-$20). When this is done, lunch will be served in the Food Hall.
