FAQs

Here are some FAQs. If you have any other questions, please feel free to reach out to us.
Question

How do I RSVP? What if I don't RSVP in time?

Answer

There is a RSVP tab near the top of the page where you can click. If it is not showing up, please check back closer to the event date! We are still working on details to share before we can accept RSVPs. If you do not RSVP by September 12th, you will be marked as "not attending". We would love celebrating with you, however, we have to provide an exact guest count to our vendors and cannot accept late RSVP's. (This will mean you are not allowed to show up to our special day. There will be no seating, food, or drink accommodation for you.)

Question

What happens if I cannot make the wedding? What should I do?

Answer

You will be missed!! If you could not attend our wedding, please indicate your regrets on our RSVP tab. So we can plan accordingly. If anything would happen after you RSVP'd, please get in contact with us immediately if you cannot attend.

Question

Can I bring a plus 1?

Answer

Based on the capacity of the venue, unless you have a +1 on the invitation, no.

Question

What is the dress code?

Answer

Please dress your best! Guys are encouraged to wear suits, girls are encouraged to wear cocktail or formal dresses. To respect the sanctity of the Basilica of St. Mary, please ensure outfits are clean, modest, and appropriate for a sacred space. The church may also be a bit chilly, so we recommend bringing a jacket or sweater. Please refrain from wearing jeans, shorts, or white attire.

Question

When should I arrive?

Answer

The Mass will start promptly at 2:30 p.m. at the Basilica. We ask all guests to arrive and be seated in the pews no later than 2:15 p.m.

Question

What about parking?

Answer

There are 3 parking lots at the Basilica of St. Mary. The main one is located beside 318 S Pitt St, Alexandria, VA 22314. The parking lot is free. The venue is only 3 blocks away (roughly a 5 minute walk). You're welcome to leave your car at the Basilica during the reception, as long as you plan to move it that night. Parking at The Alexandrian hotel is $10 for the event, $33 for overnight. There is also paid street, lot, and garage parking throughout Old Town. For a map of parking in Old Town, visit: https://www.alexandriava.gov/parking/parking-in-old-town-alexandria If you're staying in Old Town, we would recommend walking to the ceremony and reception (if the weather is nice!) or taking a ride service (Uber/Lyft).

Question

Are children welcome?

Answer

We love the little ones in our lives! However, we kindly request an adults-only celebration at our reception. Children are warmly welcome to join us for the wedding Mass.

Question

Will there be a bar?

Answer

The Bride is Irish and the Groom is Mexican. They are also Catholic. What do you think????? Trust us. We got you covered. Do not bring your own.

Question

What airports are close to the venue?

Answer

The closest airport is Reagan Washington Airport (DCA), only about a 15 minute drive from Old Town Alexandria. Other airports that are within an hour drive are Baltimore-Washington International (BWI) and Dulles International (IAD).

Question

Is there a hotel block?

Answer

Yes! Please see the "Travel" tab of the website. If all hotel rooms in the blocks are booked, please contact Trinity or Carlos and we can request additional.

Question

Can I take photos during the ceremony?

Answer

The greatest gift you can give us is being fully present at we say "I do!" We have booked a wonderful photographer, and are happy to share photos with you after the wedding.

Question

What does it mean to attend a Catholic Mass?

Answer

The Mass is the central act of worship in the Catholic Church, celebrated as a sacred meal and the re-presentation of the sacrifice of Jesus Christ on the Cross. It is divided into two main parts: the Liturgy of the Word, where we listen to the readings from the Bible, and the Liturgy of the Eucharist, where the bread and wine are consecrated to become the Body and Blood of Christ. For Catholics, receiving the Eucharist is a profound encounter with Jesus. During the wedding Mass, the couple's vows are exchanged in this holy setting, emphasizing that their marriage is not only a commitment to each other but also a covenant with God.

Question

How long does Mass take?

Answer

The wedding Mass typically lasts about one hour.

Question

What about Communion?

Answer

We kindly remind our guests that, in accordance with the teachings of the Catholic Church, only practicing Catholics in good standing should receive the Holy Eucharist. If you are not Catholic or do not wish to receive Communion, you are welcome to remain seated during this time or come forward with arms crossed to receive a blessing from the priest.

Question

Will there be an after party?

Answer

We don't know. It's Old Town and there are a lot of pubs and bars down the street. Have at it. We'll see you when we see you (likely at Murphy's).
