This fairy tale starts October 2019 - a time when toilet paper was plentiful and words like “global pandemic” and “TikTok” had not yet entered the global consciousness. In those innocent days, there was a Bavarian girl named Lena Maria who didn’t like beer. She had just moved to San Francisco, and lured by the promise of bougie cocktails, she agreed to go on a date with a Korean-American named Jacob. The bar was loud and he talked fast, but sparks flew and a second date was suggested - a sunset hike at Twin Peaks! “I know what’s going on. He just wants to kiss me!”, Lena thought to herself. “Is this moving too quickly? Should I leave him on read? Maybe pretend I’m busy?”, the picky princess asked her mother, Claudia. “He’s done nothing wrong! You like him! Give him a chance!”, Claudia responded. Fortunately for this story, her voice prevailed, and Jacob made the most of his chance, bringing a picnic basket of goodies and even a kite to fly! It turns out the summit of Twin Peaks is a terrible place to fly a kite (damn downdrafts) but the sunset was spectacular, and as they always say, it’s really the thought that counts. A few months later, they made their relationship official, and as luck would have it, Jacob’s one-room studio apartment was on the way to Lena’s office. Little did they know just how familiar they would become with it. After a few whirlwind months of enjoying the city together, COVID changed everything. Suddenly, the world shrank down to a few hundred square feet. Instead of an office, work calls were taken from a small bathroom and a smaller pantry. Instead of going out for food, meals magically appeared with a few taps of a magic touch screen. And instead of exercising at a gym, they sat on the couch as the ash fell from the sky (fire season!) and gained a lot of weight. However, they discovered that they both loved garbage reality TV, Nepalese momos, terrible jokes, and most importantly, each other! As time passed, the skies cleared, they got their shit together, lost the extra weight and moved into a bigger apartment. By 2021, Jacob realized that, “hey, she’s the one!” and began making the biggest of plans. Travel restrictions were lifting, and he took his first vacation in 5 years to take Lena to Hawaii. With a backdrop of palm trees and turquoise ocean, he planned the perfect moment: just the two of them and Troy, photographer and Gen Z poster child. They toured Honolulu, took the road to Hana, and on their first evening at the Andaz Maui, he said, “want to go fly a kite?” and lifted it out of their shared luggage where it had somehow remained undetected. And the rest, as you can probably guess, is history. We’re so happy to invite you to the beginning of the next chapter of our story, and hope that you’ll be able to make it to wish us happiLee ever after.
