Despite Hannah's best efforts over the last 2 years, Guinness sadly will not be in attendance. There are not enough sedatives in the world to settle him for such a long haul flight for such a short period of time. He will having a break of his own and be staying at a very fancy kennel with his cousins!
SO MUCH GUINNESS ( just not the dog 😞)!
The drive is around 45 mins, it will take you through some country roads in beautiful rural Ireland. If you're not so keen about taking on the one way roads (that are really a two way!) there will be lots of other brave souls on the day to help out.
The best place to stay is Lettekenny. Ideally both May 25th the night before the wedding and May 26th. The late night fun will be in Letterkenny on the 26th and there will be plenty of taxis available. The Raddison blu is a short car journey away from Rockhill and offer B&B for 99 euro. Our day 2 event is in Dunfanaghy and while airB&Bs etc are booked up (for another rival wedding) you may be lucky and find something if you're planning on sticking around.
We highly recommend renting a car. The drive from Dublin to Letterkenny (where the wedding reception is) is 3 hours and the drive from Dublin to Dunfanaghy (where the wedding ceremony is) is 3 hours and 30 minutes. There are a number of bus services eg. McGinley bus that travel from Dublin to Letterkenny however for ease of getting around Donegal and if you plan to travel to any of the surrounding area driving will be best!
Day 2 will be a much more low key event, you are all very welcome but there is no pressure at all to join. We understand many of you will want to explore the rest of beautiful Ireland! We hope to dust off the cobwebs from the night before and will likely go for a gentle stroll along Killahoey one of our favourite beaches before grabbing pizza and the best pints of Guinness in the rusty oven!
For all those Canadians who are planning on renting a vehicle, it will be useful to know that most companies in Ireland, charge double the cost for automatic vehicles (due to the fact that driving manual vehicles is "Standard"...get it?) We'd recommend reserving a vehicle earlier than later as automatic cars can sometimes be in short supply, and according to groomsman and Enterprise Area Manager Brettan Scott, the airport rental agencies generally charge more than the Dublin city companies (so it may be helpful to shop around). Popular rental brands in Dublin include: Enterprise, Europcar, and Sixt. It may also be helpful to try and carpool with others to reduce costs and/or only reserve cars on the day when you are actually planning to leave Dublin because you will not need a car when you're touring around the city centre.
No there is not a registry. As everyone (including us) will be travelling we are so grateful that you will be coming to celebrate with us. Your presence is truly present enough. There will be a box available on the day for cards.
