House Or Rental

Wedding accommodation

Montpellier de Tulbagh
Tulbagh, WC 6820, South Africa

We can accommodate all guests at Montpellier de Tulbagh, with a range of options available from rooms directly next to the wedding ceremony venue and some self catered lodges close to the main property. If you would prefer to stay off site, please let us know as soon as possible.

Flight

Edinburgh to Cape Town

The best time to book flights is roughly six months prior to travelling, and some people are arranging group tickets through a travel agent. If you have any questions about the best routes, days or times to travel, please just ask.

Rental Car

Car Rental Cape Town

First car and van rental
Cape Town, WC 8001, South Africa

We recommend everyone rents a car for the duration of the trip as using public transport is not recommended. The wedding venue is an hour and 20 minutes from Cape Town with parking on site. We have used First Car & Van Rental, conveniently located at the airport, for each trip to Cape Town but please do your research for the best deal/options to suit you.

Travel Note

Cash

While many places in Cape Town and beyond take card, we recommend carrying a small amount of cash on you at all times to enable you to tip service providers, parking attendants and petrol station attendants for example.

Travel Note

Safety

Cape Town is a perfectly safe destination for visitors, but it's important to take the necessary precautions and be aware of potential safety risks. Some key things to remember during your stay: At night avoid walking alone and wearing expensive jewellery, try not to carry large amounts of cash, be wary of strangers offering unsolicited help, especially at ATMs or when you're approached by people in official-looking uniforms, keep valuables out of sight, don't leave belongings unattended, well research the areas to plan to visit in advance, hiking is a fantastic way to take in the city but please go in a group or join a guided tour. We have no doubt everyone will have a wonderful time in Cape Town but if you have any concerns whatsoever, please don't hesitate to speak to us.

Driving

As mentioned, in order to travel around South Africa you'll need to hire a car. Driving round the city is perfectly safe but the style of Cape Town drivers in particular and the traffic at rush hour can take some getting used to! Please remember to lock car doors when you're inside your vehicle, especially at traffic lights (or robots as they're called there) and avoid opening your windows as much as possible. Don't be alarmed when you see people walking amongst cars at traffic lights, people often sell things or hand out their information in the hope of getting a job. They mean no harm but best to keep doors locked and windows rolled up just to be safe.

Travel Note

Taxis

Don't fret, if you want to go somewhere and have a drink as taxis (Ubers) are a great way to get around, especially if you're travelling to Franschhoek or Stellenbosch for the day. Uber is typically very reliable and relatively cheap, you might want to skip Uber comfort though.... We normally recommend Uber over Bolt or any other taxi provider, but Bolt is fine. We would avoid travelling via the local taxis (white minibus looking vehicles) and if you encounter one on the road, best keep out of its way.

Accomodation

There is plenty of hotel and holiday rental options in various neighbourhoods throughout Cape Town and beyond. The cost of accommodation in South Africa is really reasonable and Airbnb is a great option if you prefer self catered over hotels. Cape Town is a very big and beautiful city, so you might want to plan to stay in a couple of different locations or look for something central to save you spending lots of time driving around. We have stayed in some lovely places in Cape Town and along the Garden Route and would be happy to recommend particular areas or options depending on your plans, just let us know!

Travel Note

Wi-Fi and data

Most providers will charge you a small fortune to use your data in South Africa and while a lot of places have Wi-Fi, you probably shouldn't rely on it particularly to get around, use sat nav and if you need to order Ubers etc. We recommend getting an e-SIM just before you fly - you can select how much data you will need over what period, add it to your phone electronically (no need to locate the tiny pin you got when you bought your phone) and can top up as you go if you run out. Hannah has uses Airalo!
