Hannah and Sam's story started 20 years ago on Tuesday nights at Bible Study Fellowship on Cascade Road, where some annoying kid (Sam) had to answer all of the questions without giving other people (Hannah) a chance to answer (not everyone is impressed you can write in Greek, Sam). Fast forward to high school; Hannah and Sam came to know each other through mutual friends, and going dancing downtown (on Tuesdays), and can be seen in some of the same group photos -- often on opposite ends. College took them separate ways: Hannah to Berry College, in Georgia (to ride horses) and Sam to Calvin [College] in Grand Rapids (following a long family legacy). During their later years of school, while Hannah was living by the beach and getting her Masters in "Mosquitoes" (Entomology) at the University of Florida and Sam was studying law at University of Michigan (the state school years), they reconnected through friends while in GR during the holidays. Sam even brought her macarons when she was too sick to make his Holiday party. Hannah definitely caught Sam's eye, particularly when he found out that she'd hosted friends for a completely gluten-free (and delicious) Thanksgiving dinner; however, she was thousands of miles away on Florida's east coast. After a brief stint in Alaska for a summer job with Alaska Fish & Game, Hannah found herself back in Michigan on a Monday, and on Tuesday, both Sam and Hannah were at swing dancing. Sam and Hannah began spending more time together: dancing downtown, attending church together, drinking late night coffee at Bitter End, and driving each other's cars around. Hannah even created an excuse to text Sam everyday through a daily "subscription" of Creature of the Day (CotD) featuring photos and facts about cool creatures Hannah has seen through her adventures. Eventually, Sam got around to asking Hannah to be his girlfriend (although that took more than one attempt due to his intermittent lack of communication skills). For some reason, CotD became less frequent after this... They continued to deepen their relationship, getting to know each other's friends through things such as excursions to Georgia and Oklahoma, numerous family dinners and outings with both families, cooking gluten free foods (not always good ones), running a through-the-night relay from Cadillac to Rockford, and hosting friends for food and fellowship. Sam even has come to appreciate Hannah's cat, Jacques Cousteau (Jacques has come to appreciate Sam too). One day in September, Sam suggested that he and Hannah take a walk at Riverside Park, and (slightly) surprised Hannah by proposing by the river (she thought she scanned his pockets thoroughly but somehow missed the ring box). She said yes, and now they are looking forward to spending the rest of their lives together and are so excited to get to celebrate the start of their marriage with you all.
