Bedford Ave is the quintessential urban hiking street in Williamsburg - about 8 years ago, it was indie thrift shops and hole in the wall eats - now it boasts an apple store, lululemon, a swarovski and so much more. Its held onto much of its original charm regardless. Take the L to Bedford Ave or the G to Metropolitan/Lorimer and walk over. Grab something to eat and walk 10 minutes to the waterfront to enjoy sweeping city views.
Brooklyn Bridge Park is on so many postcards and travel blogs for a reason - located in Dumbo, BBP is a tourist's dream. It has breathtaking city views, large grassy areas for sitting, a historic carousel for the kids and kids at heart and fabulous food just steps away - check out Timeout market for a variety of eats and Grimaldi's for an iconic New York slice.
Seaport in Manhattan is a ferry, subway or uber ride away from Brooklyn. There's tons of shopping, restaurants and cobblestone streets. Miresh's first apartment is just a few blocks away on Stone Street. Want to try a Reshy fave? Check out Fishmarket - a Malaysian dive bar with authentic eats. Don't be fooled by the entrance (or lack thereof), it's a very nondescript door that looks abandoned. We promise there's fun on the other side of it!
For authentic charm and trademark affluent architecture, check out nearby Park Slope. For those who have visited Manhattan but never crossed the water, it's comparable to the Upper West Side - charming brownstones, whimsical children's shops, adorable cafes and no shortage of posh dogs on strolls with their boujee owners. Check out the intersection of Sterling Pl and 7th ave - in 1960, a plane tragically crashed right on the sidewalk there.
Like so much of North Brooklyn, McCarren park has ridden the wave of gentrification and become a hub of activity and socialization for many Greenpoint/Williamsburg natives. Pass through the grassy meadows and catch run clubs, dog walkers and sunbathers on a warm day. Keep walking north to Manhattan Ave in Greenpoint to grab some authentic Polish pierogi at Pierozek or famous sweets from Peter Pan donuts.
LES is home to young wealthy millennials who dress like they're unhoused, yet they often inhabit some of the most expensive apartments in the city...does that make sense? Pay LES a visit for thrift shopping, great sidewalk dining and people watching. Check out the famous Tenement museum for authentic NYC history, pop into Essex Market for lots of food options and drop by the famous Katz's delicatessen for a pastrami sandwich.
