It was a cold January night. I had recently moved to Italy to teach English using the Bible. One of the first weekends we had a party at the school where I was working to meet our students. Mino had come to visit his friend Giacomo (a fellow Italian that helped us with our every need at the school) and to take a peak at these new American arrivals. We met, he says still "remembers what I was wearing..." and all I remember was thinking "this guy is trouble." We weren’t that interested in meeting each other. Some time passed, we saw each other every once and a while, but it wasn't until I returned from a trip in Spain that July that we really reconnected. We were getting ready to go to church camp, where our dear friend/translator Giacomo would not be accompanying us. Mino was the only person we knew and who could help us with translating, though at this point in time Mino's English wasn't all that great. At camp, his father was the director and had put Mino and I in charge of sports together. We spent lots of time together and I thought it was just coincidental...it wasn't. Mino was crushing on me and his father was playing wingman. After camp, still having no idea that Mino liked me because let's be honest....he was a flirt (though I should've picked up on it after he put salt in my coffee), I had asked him to come out with me to meet up with my friends before they moved back to America. And that, is the night that changed everything. After a hard goodbye to my favorite people in the world, Danny and Kaitlin... Mino stayed with me and comforted me and at the end of the night planted a wet one on me. From that moment, we started our journey of love. We started out long distance, and communicated via google translator and three years later, we're still long distance but seldomly break out the google translator. We never would have imagined that this was what was in store for us, but we couldn't imagine it any other way.
