We first matched on the dating app Bumble on Christmas Day of 2021 and began talking that evening. It was clear from the get-go that it felt surprisingly natural to talk to each other. We quickly set a date for the night before the New Year to meet in person at a speakeasy in South Minneapolis. It took some coordinating because Hannah lived in Rochester (about an hour away from Maya in St. Paul) at the time. Meeting each other felt like nothing we had experienced before. Having talked about it months later, we both describe the experience of seeing each other for the first time as laying eyes on the other and thinking: "Oh, there you are." After an evening of nonstop talking, we knew we had to see each other again. About a month later, we took our first of many weekend getaways together to a cabin in the Northwoods of Wisconsin. That weekend, there was a blizzard with at least a foot of snow accumulated. We spent it cozied-up with each other in the cabin, cooking delicious pasta together, and venturing out sporadically to enjoy the snow. It was this weekend where we first told each other that we loved each other. We had each written letters to the other the week prior, expressing how we felt. We opened these together and read them in front of the fireplace. From that point forward, we have truly been each other's partner in life, experiencing so SO many wonderful moments together.
