Things To Do

Hunting for glass orbs

Block Island’s annual tradition! Throughout the island, local artists hide hand-blown glass orbs (“Glass Floats”) along beaches and trails. Find one, and it’s yours to keep! A fun and family-friendly scavenger hunt — no license or sign-up needed, just keep your eyes open while exploring.

Clamming at Andy's Way

Andy's Way, New Shoreham, RI 02807

For a local Block Island experience, head to Andy’s Way to dig for clams! Purchase a 7-day or single-day clamming license ($10–$25) at the Harbor Master’s Office at the Block Island Boat Basin (185 West Side Road). Best clamming is at Andy’s Way (1057 Corn Neck Road). Pro tip: go at low tide for the best results. You can also check in with the Moore’s or Laugeni’s for tips on finding the right spots. Make sure to review the clamming rules online before you go!

Biking the Island

Rent bikes from local shops like Beach Rose Bicycles or Island Moped and Bike. It’s one of the best ways to take in the coastal views, explore hidden beaches, and visit the iconic Southeast Lighthouse. Keep in mind: Block Island has hills — so maybe test a short route before committing to a full island loop!

Mohegan Bluffs

New Shoreham, RI 02807

One of Block Island’s most stunning spots: massive clay cliffs with sweeping ocean views. You can hike down the long staircase to the beach below (great for adventurous guests!) or just enjoy the breathtaking views from the top.

Mansion Beach

1701 Mansion Road, New Shoreham, RI 02807

For a classic beach day, head to Mansion Beach (quiet and scenic), Ballard’s Beach (lively, with a bar), or Fred Benson Town Beach (family-friendly with rentals). Bring sunscreen, towels, and maybe a picnic!
