Our Story...How we Met!

Summer of 2021 San Antonio International Airport - Hans and Hannah met with a simple hug as Catholic missionaries from around the United States gather to serve at Camp Wildsky in Medina Texas. Hans was tasked at finding everyone and rounding them all up. Hannah, of course, was the last one that needed to be found. Hans, stressed out with making sure everyone arrived on time, frantically looked around the luggage claim with only Hannah’s GroupMe profile picture as reference. A flowy brown haired, green eyes, smiley girl posing in front of an arch of flowers. “Cute” he thought sarcastically. Then he saw her, denim jacket, walking at a fast speed towards him. Contrary to his goal to find her, she found him. “Hi! I’m Hannah and I’m a hugger!”. She hugged him before he could even verify if this was even her. Little did they know at the time that this simple hug would be the first step to forever. Hans was the Men’s Missionary Captain and Hannah was the camp videographer. One day when we took headshots for the camp staff pictures, when it was time for Hannah to take her camp picture, Hans looked back and saw her as she smiled her iconic smile, raising up her foot pointing to her socks with the painter Bob Ross’ face on them. Hans says that the way her smile lit up was brighter than even the relentless Texas sun, that was the moment Hans knew there was a little spark in his heart that would soon grow to a flame. During camp introductions everyone would go on to share their loves. “I love worship music” is a common answer. Then it comes to Hannah, “I love rap. Especially Post Malone”. Everyone kinda brushes it off, but not Hans who felt like he had to hide his love for rap music from his Catholic crowd. They soon began to see that they both shared a common love for rap music and the Lord and would meet outside the camp chapel to talk about their loves. Under the Texas stars, Hans and Hannah found a little piece of home in each other, miles away from Virginia and Arizona. Neither were wanting, neither were looking, but their hearts were working nonetheless. A secret handshake only they knew, a shared spotify playlist filled with all their personal favorite music. Then came the iconic pickup line. Hannah, being the camp videographer, was taking videos of a friendly game of basketball and Hans came up to her and said “Ya know, you're always behind the camera, I think you'd look really good in front of it.”. He shoots, 3 pointer….. swish. Little known fact by the public, it was actually Hannah who asked for Hans’ number first, on that same basketball court days before they would get on a plane and say goodbye.
