At 4,528 sq km (or 6% of Scotland’s land mass), the Cairngorms is the UK’s largest national park. Famous for its spectacular landscapes and iconic wildlife, the National Park is home to one quarter of the UK’s rare and endangered species, and nearly half of its area is considered ‘wild land’. This is in the Aberdeenshire area, so about 45 mins from Drumtochty Castle!
Aberdeen is 35 minutes from Drumtochty Castle, making it the biggest city closest to the venue. This makes it a great travel hub for our guests; you can either fly into Aberdeen, or train in from another location. Aberdeen is a cool city, but the surrounding countryside and coastal area is what makes Aberdeenshire such a beautiful area. We would recommend spending more time in the country, Edinburgh, or London, and making Aberdeen a travel hub!
Drumtochty is situated within an hour and fifteen minutes from many of the world's best links golf courses including Royal Aberdeen, Carnoustie, St. Andrews, Kingsbarns, and Cruden Bay. There are lots of other other golf courses inland near the castle. Edzell Golf Club is the closest- about 25 minutes away. You should be able to rent clubs and shoes at these courses, just be sure to bring a windbreaker and extra balls!
Rabbie's is a fantastic tour company in Scotland. They offer small group van tours (about 10-15 people) and operate out of every major city in Scotland, including Aberdeen! They cover everything, from castle tours, to Highland tours, Whiskey tasting tours, you name it! Carson and I left from Edinburgh and did a tour of the highlands with this company and it was awesome!
Edinburgh is a truly magical city! This is the city that inspired JK Rowling to write Harry Potter, and it's easy to tell why. You can spend a few days exploring the history, architecture, culture, and food & drink. This is 2 hours from Drumtochty Castle by car, and 1.5 hours from Aberdeen by train. London is our favorite city to visit. It's filled with tons of history, art, culture, and incredible food! You could fly into London and spend a few days here before heading to the wedding. There are direct flights from London to Aberdeen, or if you would like to hit both London & Edinburgh, the train ride between the two cities is about 4 hours.
