There is so much to do at this park. Beaches for kite flying and picnicking, fields for games, mellow walks with epic views. It also has an interesting military history with historical buildings like half-buried bunkers and war memorials hidden in the forest.
- Visit Dungeness National Wildlife Refuge and walk the United States' longest natural sand spit. - Have a picnic at a U-pick lavender farm. - August is berry season in western Washington! Gray's Marsh Berry Farm is Hanna's family's favorite U-pick berry farm, fun for all ages.
This is where Hanna lived in elementary and middle school. - Cute Scandinavian town with good food and bakeries - Visit the Marine Science Center - Rent kayaks and paddle the Liberty Bay - The bulk candy section at Town and Country Market
Ideal stopping points if you are travelling through Bellingham or Paine Field airports: - Experience diverse wildlife of the PNW at Deception Pass State Park - Wander shops and eateries in Anacortes. - Explore Fort Casey and Ebey's Landing Preserve - Whidbey Island has a few lovely bnbs to stay the night if you choose too.
Doable as a day trip, but better to spend a few if heading west of Port Angeles. The Olympic National Park and surrounding valleys are temperate rainforests with lots of beauty to behold! Hanna and Hayden really enjoy hiking here. Some highlights include: - Hoh Rainforest hike (2-6mile hike) for epiphytes, large old growth trees (mainly Sitka Spruce and western Hemlock), and lots of wildlife. - Hurricane Ridge overlook and trailhead - Olympic hot Springs (2.4 mile hike in) - Coville Mountain biking Trails - Whale watch at the mouth of the Elwha River
Ideal if you are driving up from California. - Lots of hiking, glamping, and camping. You might just see some elk. - Eat some oysters! - Great place to kayak for the first time - Visit the Quilcene Natural Fish Hatchery to learn about the Salmon life cycle up close
