One of our many favorite nature spots in Door County! Peninsula State Park, considered Wisconsin's most complete park, offers a wide range of attractions including over 460 campsites, three group camps, a summer theater, an 18-hole golf course, a sand beach, bike trails, a lighthouse, and eight miles of Door County shoreline. The park's landscape features rollicking waves that reach sky-high bluffs as part of the Niagara Escarpment. Some of our favorite areas of the park include the Eagle Tower, which can be accessed by stairs or accessible canopy walk, Eagle Bluff Lighthouse, hiking the Eagle Trail, and Eagle Terrace. This is a great park to bike, hike, or drive through! Requires Wisconsin State Park Pass to enter by car, per vehicle, day pass can be purchased on site.
Potawatomi State Park on the shore of Sturgeon Bay in southern Door County, has 1,200 acres of gently rolling upland terrain bordered by steep slopes and rugged limestone cliffs. The park is named in honor of the tribe that inhabited Green Bay’s shores and islands when Europeans first settled the area. The tribe called themselves Bo-De-Wad-Me which means "keeper of the fire." There are hiking (including the eastern terminus of the Ice Age Trail) and biking trails as well as an observation tower. Vehicle State Park Admission Sticker Required.
Whitefish Dunes State Park protects the fragile dune environment on the eastern Door County Peninsula. At this day-use park, stroll along the Lake Michigan beach or on one of the many trails throughout the huge sand dunes and forest. Our favorite includes a hike to the top of Old Baldy, the tallest dune in the state. State Park Vehicle Admission sticker required.
Situated along the north shore of Clark Lake, Logan Creek features a northern wet-mesic forest dominated by white cedar and black ash. We have enjoyed hiking through the easy 1.5 mile loop. The area is home to various bird species such as ovenbird, red-eyed vireo, black-throated green warbler, eastern wood-pewee, great crested flycatcher, rose-breasted grosbeak, and hermit thrush.
