Flight
All guests will arrive through Santorini International Airport (JTR), the island’s main airport. Santorini Airport features year-round flights to and from Athens, with a flight time of approximately 45 minutes. Several other European countries offer direct flights to Santorini, though many of these routes are seasonal and may conclude by mid-October.
Travel Note
You can travel from Santorini International Airport by taxi, pre-booked private transfer, public bus, or rental car. We recommend booking your transportation from the airport prior to arrival. There are only 37 taxis on the island, and wait times can be long. Three options we recommend: https://www.welcomepickups.com/santorini/ https://cozypickups.com/santorini-transfers https://www.viptransferssantorini.com/santorini-transfers/santorini-airport-transfers/ Tips for Reaching Your Hotel / Airbnb Address Details: Because many streets do not have names and homes do not have addresses, be sure to ask your host to include any landmarks or specific directions to help your taxi locate your lodging — especially if you are not staying at a branded hotel. Communication: Coordinate with your Airbnb host regarding check-in times and any specific instructions for reaching the property. Accessibility: Some accommodations, especially in villages like Oia and Imerovigli, are located in pedestrian-only zones. In such cases, drivers will drop you off at the nearest accessible point, and you may need to walk. Please note that these villages often involve many stairs to reach your destination. Navigation Apps: Use apps like Google Maps or Maps.me for walking directions from drop-off points to your Airbnb. Cash: Carry small denominations of euros for transportation fares. Language: While many locals speak English, having your destination written in Greek can be helpful. Have Google Translate app downloaded in advance. Contact Information: Keep your host's contact details handy in case you need assistance upon arrival.
Hotel
Kristen and Michael fell in love with Rocabella Santorini for its breathtaking caldera views, peaceful atmosphere, and exceptional hospitality. Perched between Imerovigli and Oia, the property offers a perfect balance of luxury and tranquility—ideal for unwinding, watching the sunset, and soaking in the magic of the island. It’s one of their favorite places on Santorini, and they highly recommend it to guests seeking a memorable and romantic stay.
Rental Car
We highly recommend renting a car to explore the island during your trip. We had a wonderful experience with this company—they offer convenient pick-up and drop-off near the airport
Travel Note
Travel Tips for Santorini • Taxis do not use meters — always agree on the fare before your ride. • Roads are narrow — compact cars are best if you plan to rent. • WhatsApp is commonly used for communication on the island. • Tap water is not potable — drink bottled water only. • Wear sunscreen daily — the sun is strong, even when it’s breezy. • Bring a deep conditioner — the tap water is salt-based. • Avoid stiletto heels — choose block heels, wedges, or flats instead. • Be prepared to walk — many areas are pedestrian-only with uneven terrain. • If you have long hair, plan for a pulled-back hairstyle. The Santorini winds are no joke! Updos, low buns, and secured styles are highly recommended to avoid wind-blown photos and hair malfunctions. ⸻ Wedding Party Travel Tips • Plan to arrive by Sunday, October 12. Give yourself time to adjust to the time zone, explore the island, and feel rested and present for the festivities. • Do not check your wedding wardrobe. Pack your ceremony outfit in your carry-on. Lost luggage is always a possibility — formalwear should stay with you. • Apply sunscreen daily. Protect your skin so you feel and look your best all weekend. • Screenshot the itinerary. Wi-Fi may be spotty — keep key event times, addresses, and contacts saved offline. • Rehearsal: Tuesday, October 14 at 10:00 AM at Santorini Gem. Transportation departs from Rocabella Resort at 9:40 AM. Your presence is important to ensure the big day runs smoothly. • Practice your hair and makeup before the wedding day. If you will be doing your own glam, we recommend practicing your full look in advance to feel confident, comfortable, and camera-ready.
Travel Note
Guests are encouraged to stay anywhere on the island to create the Santorini experience that best suits them. Each village has its own unique charm and attractions. Recommended and popular areas include: • Pyrgos – A charming, traditional village rich with history and hillside views. It’s also the location of the wedding ceremony at Santorini Gem, making it a convenient and scenic option for guests. • Fira – A lively village just 10 minutes north of Pyrgos, known for its restaurants, nightlife, and shopping. • Oia – World-famous for its sunsets, iconic white buildings, and blue-domed churches. Oia is located about 25 minutes from the venue. • Imerovigli (recommended) – A peaceful, romantic village between Fira and Oia, celebrated for its panoramic caldera views. It’s a favorite of the couple and the location of the wedding reception venue. For more insights into the island’s top destinations and activities, visit the “Things To Do” page.
