Eastern Market is the largest year round open-air market in the country. Grab some coffee from Germack, stop into DeVries (make sure to go to all three floors), check out the classic Detroit artwork showcased on the buildings throughout the market, and most importantly visit the market’s sheds. Afterward stop at Eastern Market Brewing for a beer (or two).
Indy’s favorite walking spot in the city. Start at Eastern Market and either walk or rent a bike, or a bird, and take the cut down to the water. Stop at the Freight Yard bar along the way. Once you get to the water, walk along the riverwalk down to Atwater to grab a beer. The rooftop is the spot on a nice day.
Island park located on the Detroit River with amazing views of both Detroit and Windsor. There are a ton of hiking trails, the Belle Isle Aquarium, and the Conservatory. During the pandemic, this was our favorite place to take Indy for a walk or for a swim.
Walking the riverwalk is one of our favorite activities. You can start in Hart Plaza and walk entirely along the river all the way to Belle Isle. Along the riverwalk, there are various parks where you can stop and grab a drink or some food. We often walk along the riverwalk with Indy and end at Atwater for a beer.
Great spot to start if you want to walk the entire riverfront. Right outside Hart Plaza you will also find the Spirit of Detroit statue and the Monument to Joe Louis.
One of the best breweries in town! Their beer and food is top notch
Our go to spot to take out-of-towers. Can’t get more Detroit than this iconic bar. Go early as it’s always packed! Phil’s go to drink is the Detroit brown and Stephanie’s is the bees knees. Be prepared, they’re strong!
Voted the best art museum in the US! Highly recommend but only if you have a few hours to burn.
Iconic alleyway with some great bars along the way. The skip is our favorite! Great spot to take some pictures.
One of our favorite bars and also where we got some of our engagement photos taken!
If you want to go you have to make a reservation ahead of time!
Old veterans bar. Their outdoor area is huge!
Shipping container building full of different restaurants and bars
In Detroit, you’re either a Lafayette or American person. We are Lafayette people. Try a coney - it’s a Detroit must.
One of the oldest neighborhoods in Detroit. Lots of bars and restaurants! Slows BBQ, Grandma Bobs pizza, Mercury burger, McShane’s, and much more!
The original Detroit style pizza.
Our favorite New York style pizza in the city. It’s also down the street from our venue!
Stephanie’s go to dive bar. 3 tequila shots for $10? Say less.
In the recently restored Book Tower building. The building alone is worth checking out but this restaurant has amazing French food. Try the steak tartare!
Our all time favorite restaurant in Detroit. Trust us, we’ve tried a lot.
The bar Stephanie worked at for 2 years. Best sports bar around!
We are both members. They have amazing sours!
Our first date spot. Great for some end of the night cocktails.
Amazing roof top bar on the top floor of the Book Tower. Can’t beat the view!
A bar staple for us.
The best tasting menu around (and for the best deal).
Gorgeous art deco building. The architecture in Detroit just can’t be beat. Take a walk around Campus Martius, go inside The Guardian and look around, then check out the spirit of Detroit statue and end at Hart Plaza
