Halie and Rob first met while playing music together in jazz band in college. When Halie's bass was having issues one day, Rob jumped at the chance to fix it. In return, Halie offered to take Rob out to lunch. At lunch, they realized there was a special connection between them. It was the middle of finals week, so it could have ended there as campus was clearing for the summer. Instead, they made time for each other and made it work. By the end of the summer, they found themselves in a supportive and loving relationship that will continue forever.

Halie was staying in New Orleans for the summer of 2017 for a grad school internship. Rob was planning to visit for his birthday and bring some friends to explore the city. Little did Halie know, he was planning something big the whole time. After a fun weekend and birthday dinner, Rob proposed in front of the fountain in the beautiful courtyard at Cafe Amelie in front of many of their wonderful friends. Proposing on his birthday was an idea inspired by Rob's dad, who did the same thing 33 years earlier. Halie was totally surprised, and it will be a birthday that they will both never forget.
