In spring 2020, Hali was participating in Dance Marathon at MSU with her sorority. Chisum, who was the mascot at the time, pulled her aside to dance at the event. Hali asked her sorority sisters, who were in the color guard, who Champ was. Fast forward to fall 2021, Hali was in the front row at a Bobcat football game and Chisum got her phone number while he was Champ. Every day for a week after their first date, they spent time together, and on December 18, 2021, Chisum asked Hali to be his girlfriend. They saw each other graduate college, have seen many concerts together, and adopted a dog, Bandit, and two cats, Toast and Fushi, to join their other pets, Bean and Marlowe. Chisum has supported Hali as she's published several books, and Hali has supported Chisum in his dream to become a law enforcement officer. On September 7, 2024, after the Gold Rush game at Bobcat Stadium, Chisum got down on one knee and asked Hali to marry him with the help of Champ and the MSU Spirit Squad.
