It all began back in high school — when we were just two teenagers running on the cross country team, folding laundry at Portage Cleaners, and serving as FBLA officers side by side. We became friends through all those activities - sharing many laughs and memories, never realizing that something deeper was quietly growing. Things didn’t start to change until Jacob was about to graduate high school, realizing that he had to make a move before starting his next chapter. One summer evening, we went on our very first date — a fun round of mini golf followed by Culver’s frozen custard. That led to many more ice cream dates, campfires, boat rides, and movie nights, turning our friendship into a loving relationship. We have spent plenty of time and miles apart, doing long distance and building their relationship on trust, support, and communication — with every “good morning” text and “good night” call making them stronger. Now, after years of memories, laughter, and love, we’re beyond excited to start this next chapter surrounded by the people who mean the most.
After so many years together, Haley made sure Jacob knew exactly what she wanted when the time came for “the big question.” Her rules were clear: 1) It had to be a surprise. 2) It couldn’t happen at a restaurant or sporting event. 3) And most importantly—it had to be a good one. Jacob took those instructions to heart and began planning the perfect proposal—so perfectly, in fact, that Haley ended up helping him without even realizing it! Haley suggested celebrating her final medical school exam and their 9-year dating anniversary with a weekend camping trip to Door County at Peninsula State Park. Jacob thought it was the perfect time to capitalize on the plans given it was their favorite place to visit together and even convinced Haley to invite her parents to join in on the celebration. To complete the plan, he arranged for Haley to get her nails done with a friend—something Haley thought was entirely her own idea to meet up with her friend! Then came Saturday, June 14, 2025—the big day. Just before heading out on a sailboat, it started to rain. Thankfully, it wasn’t supposed to last long, only the first half of the ride. The captain suggested they go out on deck for photos, but Haley preferred to wait until the rain stopped. (This wasn’t part of Jacob’s plan!) When the weather finally cleared, they stepped out on deck. As Haley turned around, Jacob got down on one knee and asked the question he had been waiting years to ask. Of course, she said yes! It was the perfect moment—romantic, thoughtful, and completely true to us. And yes, Jacob managed to meet all three of Haley’s proposal requirements.
