Once upon a time, Haley and Mike were very single and living in cities that were nearly 500 miles away from each other. Haley only swiped right because Mike wrote on his profile that he wanted a wife, chickens, and land. Plus, he seemed funny and normal lol. Mike swiped right on Haley because she was cute and was the only girl in Knoxville that looked like a princess in a land of ogres (according to Mike). So technically, we met through an app, but we think our story is more special than that.
When they started texting each other, Haley was on a ski trip in Colorado for her 30th birthday. Haley told Mike that she was pretty sure she broke her shoulder on the black diamond (which she was not qualified to ski down in the first place) and he seemed very concerned. That's when she knew he was different. Conversation was light and casual and Haley found Mike to be super funny. Little did Haley realize, Mike didn't even live remotely close to Knoxville (he was living in Surf City at the time) and she quickly told him "hey, you're cool and fun to talk to, but I am not doing long distance." Mike quickly responded "O no, I'm moving to Knoxville in four months." Haley was relieved and figured why not keep texting him. He was nice and she wasn't seeing anyone.
As the conversation went on, they started talking about Mike's move to Knoxville. She asked if he had found a place to live and he said, "yes, One Riverwalk in downtown Knoxville!" Haley's mouth dropped....that's where she lived. And turns out, he was moving just one floor above her. They stayed pen pals until he moved in. The day he moved in Haley was extremely nervous to meet him in person. It was especially daunting because he didn't have social media, so what if he wasn't even real? Thank goodness he was and thank goodness she wasn't super awkward when they met.
They started hanging out by the fire pits and the pool, getting to know each other better and eventually they agreed they should probably make things official. Over the next two years, they would travel, buy a house, meeting each others family and friends, and enjoy living their best lives as boyfriend and girlfriend!
On a brisk, but sunny New Years Eve in Surf City, NC Mike got down on one knee (in the water), and asked Haley to marry him. Followed by lots of tears, shock, and excitement, she said Yes!!! And the rest is history. It is so wild how God sends you the right person as the right time, we truly believe that we were meant to meet the way we did. We are so incredibly happy and excited for our future together!
