first meeting

07 . 31 . 15

It was the summer of 2015 — Haley had recently graduated from UW, and Dylan was settling into a new job and home in Seattle. During a mid-week happy hour, Haley caught up with Tia, one of her friends from school. As the conversation veered towards dating, Tia brought up Dylan, a friend of her boyfriend Matt, who she wanted Haley to meet. They made plans to see each other again later that week, when Matt could bring Dylan. A few days later, on a warm summer evening, Haley got together with her childhood best friend, Katie. They made their way to a bar in Fremont to meet up with Tia and Matt. Haley knew Dylan would be joining, and was eager to be introduced. Dylan, however, had not been clued into the fact that it was set up. Fortunately, it was a happy surprise for him, as the two hit it off immediately. A week later, they met up for their first date, and have been together ever since!

moving to CA

In May of 2019, Haley and Dylan packed up their apartment in Magnolia, Seattle to drive the Pacific Coast Highway to San Diego. There, they've enjoyed building a life in sunny Southern California — adopting their dog Ziggy, a rescue with a lot of personality, and purchasing their first home in San Marcos. While their friends and family are spread out across the country, the greater San Diego area has remained a special place for Haley and Dylan. Because of this, the decision was easy when it came time to select a location to be married. They are so excited to have all of their favorite people together in one of their favorite places.

In the spring of 2021, Haley and Dylan went on a long weekend trip into Joshua Tree. Because they hadn’t spent much time discussing plans for the trip, Haley thought they would just figure it out as they went. Little did she know…Dylan had purchased a ring nearly 5 months earlier, and for weeks had been secretly talking with Haley’s best friend, Ashley, to make plans for the proposal. On Saturday morning, Dylan suggested they venture into town to walk through a local farmer’s market, have breakfast, and check out a few shops. Meanwhile, Ashley and her husband Ben drove from their home in Orange County to Joshua Tree, opened up Haley and Dylan's Airbnb using the sneakily hidden key, and set up a beautiful spread in the backyard. After Haley did a little too much shopping (a clear sign she had no idea what was to come), Dylan suggested they walk back to the Airbnb to figure out what they wanted to do next. Once at the house, he led her into the backyard, decorated in flowers and photos, and asked the big question!
