Located within a park system designed by Frederick Law Olmsted in the 1800s, the Buffalo and Erie County Botanical Gardens is situated on 12 acres that also feature an accredited arboretum and lush outdoor gardens. Designed by Lord & Burnham, our historic conservatory, modeled after rare glasshouses in London, England, opened in 1900. Our grounds have been designated as a Level II Arboretum through ArbNet, Our arboretum is home to over 100 trees, some of which are considered ‘original Olmstead plantings’ and are over 125 years old.
Whirlpool State Park has two levels -- the street level has many scenic overlooks with spectacular views of the Whirlpool and rapids. There are picnic facilities and a playground, as well as the gorge natural history room at the restroom building
This park was created as a setting for passive recreation in surroundings that evoked an ideal rural world. A rolling meadow dotted with trees and surrounded by woods formed the eastern portion. Olmsted said: “There is no more beautiful picture than that of a beautiful meadow, over which level-armed sheltering trees cast broad shadows.” Located west of Delaware Avenue, Olmsted and Vaux created a picturesque lake for boating in summer and skating in winter by damning the Scajaquada Creek that flowed through the site.

The Bar Bill Tavern has been an institution in East Aurora, NY since the day it opened its doors. Mystery surrounds the lore of "The Bill" at almost every telling. Everything from the name, to the famous customer vacations, to the Mug Club feature a level of mythology when told at the bar (and elsewhere). The old building at 185 Main Street has stood for over 150 years. Originally opened by Barb and Bill (hence the name) Korzelius, the tavern replaced a small ice cream shop on the west end of Main St.
