FAQs

Question

Is there a dress code?

Answer

Not really! We encourage you to dress up in whatever feels comfortable for you. Temperatures will likely be in the 60s and rain is always possible! So please pack layers, a raincoat and comfortable shoes for walking and dancing. We do not recommend high heels as the ceremony will be on the beach. The community center has hard floors, so folks typically enjoy bringing slippers or crocs to make dancing the night away more comfortable.

Question

Can I bring a date?

Answer

Yes!

Question

Are kids welcome?

Answer

Yes! Kids are welcome, but music at the reception will be uncensored.

Question

Is there transportation to and from the lodges to the ceremony?

Answer

Please see the note under the travel and accommodation section. Local friends please let us know if you are willing to provide rides!

Question

What is for dinner?

Answer

We're having a potluck dinner! Hailey and Lucas will provide the main course (halibut and maybe some wild salmon). The food is being prepared by members of our community rather than a professional catering service. If you have dietary restrictions, please reach out to us so we can make sure there is food for you to eat!

Question

When can we spend time with you around the wedding?

Answer

We will have some availability to spend time with folks the week before our wedding. We highly encourage joining us on the dayboat trip on Friday, June 20th so we can show you around the place we live and work! We will be leaving for a short camping trip the Monday following our wedding.

Question

When should I RSVP by?

Answer

We would appreciate RSVPs by May 21st. We don't have vendors we need to send numbers to in a traditional sense, but would be greatly appreciated to have an idea of how much halibut to catch and how many kegs we need from Juneau.

Question

Anything else we should know about Gustavus?

Answer

1. You will only have cell service if you have AT&T. If you have a different carrier, we recommend going to your cell phone settings and turning on Wi-Fi calling. Wi-Fi is available at the library, Fireweed coffee, Red Rooster, airport, and likely your lodging accommodations. 2. If you rent a car you need to wave at every car you pass. It's an unofficial town rule! :) 3. Toshco, our local grocery store, is small. It has most items you may need, but if you have special dietary needs, please reach out to see if you need grab food in Juneau. 4. Gustavus is a tiny, charming town of about 500 people, nestled in the heart of stunning natural beauty. We chose to get married here because this place and its people mean the world to us. The locals are as warm and wonderful as the scenery is breathtaking, and we encourage you to take some time to meet them during your visit! Being a small town off the road system, Gustavus doesn’t have the typical wedding vendors you might find elsewhere. Our celebration is truly a community effort, made possible by the incredible generosity of our dear friends. From the potluck-style meal to helping transition the space from dinner to dancing, this wedding will reflect the spirit of Gustavus: heartfelt, unique, and full of love. Thank you for embracing this special place and celebrating with us!
