2018 - Hai and Thina met at a hospital while she was working as a nurse and he was in his first year of medical residency. After working together with a patient, they began to notice each other. As Hai was too shy to make the first move, he gave Thina a piece of paper with his number on it and told her to call him whenever there were nurses' potlucks. He wanted free food. Thina sent a text message to Hai first. Their first date was at Lazy Dog restaurant. They officially got together after they went hiking. Three months later, the covid pandemic happened...

Hai and Thina were planning a trip to Korea and Japan. As her family members mentioned that Hai might pop the question then, Hai decided to move his proposal date in order to really surprise Thina. On the guise of a movie date night, Hai wanted to take Thina to go see John Wick 4. Since Thina never watched the John Wick trilogy, she had prepared by watching the movies the weekend before. Hai picked Thina up and drove towards the movie theater. As Hai just exited the freeway, he suddenly said, "Oh I have an emergency. I gotta go to the bathroom for #2. I don't want to use a public bathroom. I need to go home." That being said, Thina was pretty annoyed because he had wasted money on movie tickets and drove back during peak traffic hour. As soon they arrived at Thina's sister Hang's house, he dashed inside to "go to the bathroom". Hang lured Thina in the backyard and when Thina turned the corner, she saw Hai standing in front of large marquee letters that spelled "MARRY ME" with a red carpet filled with red roses and candles while 'Fantasy' by Mariah Carey was playing in the background. Thina was speechless. She wasn't sure if she was still upset or shocked. Hai got down on one knee and popped the question. Thina said yes! Subsequently, Thina called her parents about the good news. It turns out that her parents already knew what was happening because Hai and Hang had went to her parents' house to ask for their permission to marry Thina. In the end, Hai and Thina celebrated their engagement by watching John Wick 4. All thanks to Hang for helping with all of the planning.

With their immediate family present, Thina and Hai had a simple, intimate ceremony in Las Vegas on 04/20/2024. Hai loves the special date since it's a palindrome, not for other reasons. The celebration doesn't end just yet: they will be celebrating their wedding reception with the rest of their friends and family this August!
