FAQs

All the things you really want to know...
Question

Are children invited?

Answer

Absolutely! If you want a night to yourself, then send them to the babysitter, but they are more than welcome to come and enjoy the beach with us. If you decide to bring your children, we'll have a few kid-friendly activities: If the kids get cranky and need a break from dancing, we'll have a movie theater playing Finding Nemo and Finding Dory throughout the night. Additionally, we'll have a room set up for naps and an area set up for coloring, reading, and play.

Question

Can I bring a date?

Answer

Everyone is welcome to invite their significant other and/or children. Just be sure to include their meal choice(s) in your RSVP!

Question

Where is the ceremony/reception taking place?

Answer

Both the ceremony and the reception will take place at Topsail Manor, in North Topsail Beach, NC. (So no need to worry about transportation between events!) Weather permitting, we will have the ceremony at the beach behind the home, and the reception will take place poolside at Topsail Manor. (If it rains, then everything will simply be moved inside the beautiful rental property!) Topsail Manor 3658 Island Drive North Topsail Beach, NC, 28460 https://www.accessthebeach.com/booking/topsail-manor/526

Question

What happens if it rains?

Answer

If it rains and we are unable to hold the ceremony on the beach, we will simply move the ceremony indoors to the great room on the 2nd floor of Topsail Manor.

Question

What is the dress code?

Answer

Beach casual... No need for a suit and top-hat (although, if you want to wear a top-hat, who are we to cramp your style?). Light, comfortable fabrics, and open-toed shoes or flip-flops would work best for our beach ceremony. If you want to wear nicer shoes, some customary flip-flops will be available at the ceremony site. Temperatures in North Topsail in May average in the high 70's to low 80's, so dress accordingly! (Also keep in mind that temperatures tend to dip a bit at night. Since the cocktail hour and reception will be outside, you may want to bring a jacket or wrap)

Question

Transportation and Parking?

Answer

There will be ample parking in front of Topsail Manor, at the home across the street (which will be rented by the groom's mother), and in the public access beach parking lot that's within walking distance of the home. There is no fee to park in any of these locations. Please do not park on the street, as it will be in violation of the parking laws, and you may be subject to a fine.

Question

What time should we be there?

Answer

5 p.m. is your best option! With the ceremony beginning promptly at 5:30, you can mingle, grab a drink from the tiki bar, and enjoy the fantastic beach atmosphere before being ushered to the ceremony.

Answer

Yes! There will be 3 adult entrees and 2 children's entrees to choose from: Adult Entrees 1) Roasted Medalions of Beef Tenderloin with a Mushroom Brandy Sauce (Sides: Cheesy Garlic Mashed Potatoes and Roasted Zucchini/Squash) 2) Asian Seared Salmon with a Ginger Soy Glaze (Sides: Rice and Roasted Zucchini/Squash) 3) Cheese Ravioli with a Roasted Garlic Cream Sauce Children's Entrees 1) Chicken Tenders with Mac N' Cheese (Side of Fruit Salad) 2) Cheese Ravioli in a Roasted Garlic Cream Sauce (smaller portion)

Question

What if I have a dietary restriction?

Answer

Please e-mail us at smithhagan921@hotmail.com to let us know! We want you to be safe and comfortable!

Question

Where are you registered?

Answer

Your presence at our wedding is gift enough. Seriously. But if you still feel obliged, we are registered at Amazon, Bed Bath & Beyond, and Blueprint (where you can even donate to our Honeymoon Fund!). Please click on the registry tab for all of the details. (Side note: you are welcome to bring gifts, but seeing as how we must pack up and take everything home after the wedding, it would be easier if gifts were sent to our home address in Palmyra)

Question

What is your wedding theme/colors?

Answer

Our wedding theme is, well, the beach! Who would want more than that? Our colors will be jewel tones - dark purples and royal blues - paired with some gray and silver.

Question

Are the ceremony and reception location wheelchair accessible?

Answer

Unfortunately not. If the ceremony is held on the beach (weather permitting), then there is no wheelchair access. However, the poolside reception is wheelchair accessible, and there is an elevator in the home if it rains and we are required to move the ceremony indoors.

Question

What is handfasting?

Answer

Handfasting is an old Irish wedding ritual, where the couple literally and symbolically "tie the knot." While there are several versions of the ceremony, we are using it as an homage to my (the bride's) Irish heritage.

Question

What is a shell ceremony?

Answer

A shell ceremony is a beach-themed participation activity that goes as follows - All of the guests at our wedding will be given a shell to hold throughout the ceremony. At the end of the ceremony, our officiant will ask everyone go to the edge of the water with their shell, and silently make a wish or blessing for the bride and groom. Everyone will then throw their shells into the ocean, thereby combining all of the wishes and blessings to ebb and flow together forever. It's a fun way to get out some energy after sitting through 30 minutes of mushy romantic stuff.

Question

Are there any additional activities scheduled before or after the wedding?

Answer

Other than the "After-party," which takes place immediately after the reception, we currently have no other scheduled activities.

Question

Can I take pictures? Am I allowed to post photos of your wedding on social media?

Answer

As long as you don't interfere with the photographer or the flow of events, you are more than welcome to take pictures. We are not big on the social media ourselves, so we don't have any dedicated wedding pages on Twitter or Facebook, but you may post whatever photographs you'd like on social media, as long as you get consent from anyone present in the photo.

Question

How do I contact you if I have other questions?

Answer

We’d love to hear from you! Please e-mail us at smithhagan921@hotmail.com with any questions or concerns. We can’t wait to see you!
