We first met in high school at Bakersfield Christian. Being two years apart we didn't talk much, but the one thing we knew about each other was that we were both Nebraska Cornhusker football fans (a HUGE deal for Kenton). Years later, after both graduating college, we reconnected after Hadley reached out. We had our "first date" a week later spent catching up on life and watching a Marvel movie, followed closely by a second date consisting of Mario Kart and root beer floats (one of our favorite treats). Kenton was headed down to Long Beach to begin graduate school, but we decided to give it a shot despite the challenge of long distance. After just two weeks of dating we said "I love you" for the first time.
From the beginning we had built a relationship on honesty, vulnerability, and trust in The Lord. We left our relationship in His hands and knew that He would make a way if it was within His Will. The Long Beach shore held a special place in our hearts because it was where we first said "I love you". Kenton had made plans weeks in advance to spend the day down at the coast visiting family and friends...little did Hadley know she would be surprised with a picnic and an engagement ring.
