Our Story

It All Began With a Firm Handshake and No Fish

In the beginning of 2025, a mutual friend introduced Haddon and Grace to each other after a worship service at Grove City College. As Grace tells it, Haddon’s remarkably firm handshake and kind eyes were the most memorable details from their first meeting. A few weeks after they met, the Lord prompted Grace to cross the cafeteria and ask Haddon on a date. All the while, Haddon had actually been praying to the Lord for a future wife. Their first date was a fishing adventure! Combined with Grace's aversion to touching fish and Haddon's limited fishing experience it was bound to be an interesting time. It included wind, rain, tangled lines, and a fishing rod breaking. Despite the less-than-ideal conditions, it was easy, peaceful, and fun! They left with wet shoes, a few stories, and the desire to continue getting to know each other. Although they didn't hook any fish that day they did in fact catch some feelings. They dated through the rest of the semester, during which Haddon officially asked Grace to be his girlfriend on a walk through campus, surprising her with a bouquet of flowers he had hidden in the iris bushes along their path. That summer meant traveling back and forth: Grace to Massachusetts, Haddon to Virginia, and growing more certain of what they were building. As senior year began and graduation approached, they spent time praying and talking seriously about what the future might hold. Through conversation, prayer, and continued joy and excitement for a life together, Haddon proposed to Grace in her hometown on November 29, 2025.
