We love soaking in the hot springs in Durango! They are about 15 minutes from downtown.
Mesa Verde is such a special place. You can book a tour with a guide or hike around. It is North-east of Durango and only takes about 40 minutes to drive to. You get to visit some of the most well-preserved Ancestral Puebloan cliff dwellings and see how they used to live. It is amazing and kid-friendly.
Silverton is about an hour north of Durango. It is an old, historic mining town incorporated back in the 1800s. There are a number of beautiful hikes in Silverton. The town is definitely one to check out! You can also book a Railroad trip from Durango to Silverton.
Purgatory! Our home mountain! It is about 40 minutes to drive to from Durango. In the off-season it turns into a down-hill mountain bike park. There are fun activities for the whole family with great views.
Telluride is about 2-2.5 hours North of Durango (Silverton is about halfway). Telluride is a beautiful place to visit to check out their scenery, small mountain town way of life, and waterfalls. One way to get to Telluride from Durango is to take Red Mountain Pass...definitely a site to see, but maybe do some research before if you're afraid of heights! Another way to travel to Telluride is by taking Lizard Head Pass.
The Animas River runs right through town and is a popular stretch for rafters. Get a local raft guide to take you down the river and experience Durango from the water!
