FAQs

Question

Are there any other events that I should know about around the wedding?

Answer

YES! Check out the Events Page to see planned items Thursday, Friday, and Saturday. We want everyone to relax, unwind, and enjoy the best of Jamaica for as many days as you are able to! Let us know if you want suggestions for other activities to do in/around Negril as well. We're happy to share some of our ideas with you.

Question

Do you have any hotel recommendations?

Answer

We have reserved Rockhouse Hotel exclusively for our guests from 10/10/2019 - 10/13/2019. We'd love for you to stay there with us to celebrate! We will also provide additional hotel recommendations on the Travel page as well.

Question

What airport should I fly into?

Answer

We recommend flying into Montego Bay Airport. The airport is closest to Negril and many hotels will offer shuttle service to and from the airport.

Question

Do I need to rent a car?

Answer

We will be organizing transportation for excursions in and around Negril during the wedding weekend, along with helping those who need airport pick ups and drop offs. You don't need to rent a car, but you're more than welcome to. Just take note that driving in Jamaica can be challenging given road conditions and comfort driving on the left side of the road. We recommend using National Car Rental. Most companies have services at the airport to pick up and drop off cars. Please note that insurance provided by your credit card company may not be accepted when renting cars in Jamaica. You will need to pay for additional car insurance.

Question

Is there a dress code?

Answer

Come dressed in your best tropical, elegant style. Think cocktail but with a colorful twist. We are not getting married on a beach, so you can wear your best non-beach footwear as you won't be sinking into any sand! Be prepared to dance the night away though!

Question

What should I pack for Jamaica?

Answer

Great question! Outside of your wedding attire, we recommend packing light, versatile clothes. Think jeans, shorts, t-shirts, sundresses, etc. Sneakers, sandals, and any water shoes you may want to have on hand. Bathing suits are a must! While it doesn't get very cold, you may want to include a light sweater or jacket for evenings or time spent in air conditioning. Most things in and around Negril are informal, so you don't need to plan on dressing up for restaurants or events. Other essentials: bug spray and after bite (the hotel does provide, but feel free to bring your own), sunscreen, hats, sunglasses, chargers (you can use US plugs in Jamaica). The hotel provides all the basic amenities you would expect (towels, hair dryer, toiletries), but if you prefer to carry something special, feel free to add to your luggage.

Question

What is there to eat?

Answer

Jamaican food is delicious and we hope you all get to partake in all of the wonderful food at your disposal during the trip. Here is a list of foods you may not know offhand: Ackee: Ackee & Saltfish is the Jamaican National Dish (breakfast of choice). Ackee is a fruit that tastes kind of like scrambled eggs, but not so eggy. Throw some hot sauce on it, eat with festival (see below) and say yum! Festival Festival is really code for fried dumplings. Who can go wrong with fried carbs? Really, no one. Trust us, you will love it. Jerk: No, this is not the annoying guy sitting next to you on the subway. This is Jamaican Jerk! It's grilled a la barbecue, seasoned with peppers and spices. It's not spicy hot, though you can make it as hot as you like by adding more pepper, hot sauce, etc. You can jerk just about anything and you will see it on menus with chicken, fish, pork, ribs, vegetables (just kidding), and lobster. We'll share some of the best jerk spots with you on our travel page.

Question

Where should I exchange money?

Answer

We recommend not exchanging money at the airport. The exchange rate via ATM from the airport will be lower than through cambios. In Negril, we recommend the cambio in Sunshine Plaza on West End Road. This is opposite the Scotia Bank on West End Road. You can ask your hotel for directions if needed. We are happy to help you sort this out once you arrive. Many larger shops and businesses will accept US Dollars. You will get change returned in Jamaican currency. Most hotels will also accept US Dollars for payment, food, gift purchases, etc.

Question

Do I need to tip?

Answer

Hotels and restaurants will include a service charge on top of your bill automatically. You are welcome to tip on top of that, but you don't need to. If you take any local taxis or purchase goods from a market, etc. it is up to you if you want to add a small tip on top of your purchase.

Question

What taxis should I take?

Answer

There are plenty of taxis in and around Negril to help facilitate transport during your visit. We strongly recommend coordinating taxi service with your hotel rather than trying to flag one down on your own. If you plan on any longer day trips, you can also arrange for a car and driver through your hotel.

Question

Are photos allowed during the wedding?

Answer

Of course! We encourage you to take photos during all of the wedding events, just be prepared to share with us! #g&boccasion Please mindful of the photographers covering the event.
